This weekend, Nutter Fieldhouse in Lexington, Kentucky will welcome hundreds of the regions fastest runners, most athletic jumpers, and strongest throwers for an unforgettable weekend of competition. Later this week we'll have our first look at this years scheduled competitors and gauge who will have their sights set on taking over as a US No. 1 as we saw three times in 2019. From those three, a single race stands out above the rest as one of the greatest races in meet history, the boys 60m dash.
As the day began first came the prelims where three top of the dogs emerged as clear favorites. An underrated speedster from Missouri Lance Lang, the pride and joy of Illinois Marcellus Moore, and the hometown hero Langston Jackson. Coming out of the prelims all three had posted US top 5 times with Lang's 6.72 (US No. 3), Jackson's 6.75 (US No. 4), and Moore's 6.80 (US No. 5).
As they line up, all come to the line with a mission, to emerge as the nation's fastest high schooler as they know it's within reach. All are stone faced and ready to roll as detailed later on in the post race interview filled with energy and nerves. Popping out of the blocks first is Lance Lang who immediately opens up a lead while Marcellus Moore begins to gain as his well known top end speed kicks in. They lean across the line and as he looks to his left and to his right, Lance Lang knows the race is his, but as they ease up all eyes in the building are on the big screen. Not a second later the crowd erupts... 6.62 seconds for Lang, 6.65 for Moore, and 6.72 for Jackson going US No. 1, 2, and 4!! They walk off the track exchanging smiles high fives and daps as each one of them know they had just been a part of history.
