RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s cross country team is ranked ninth in the southeast region in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association’s most recent poll.

The southeast region is one of the largest of the nine regions in the nation, consisting of all NCAA Division I schools from the states of Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The region also features all Atlantic Coast Conference schools.

EKU is ranked behind only William and Mary, Virginia, NC State, Duke, Louisville, Liberty, Virginia Tech and Richmond.

The Colonels are ranked ahead of such notables as Clemson, North Carolina and Kentucky.

The men’s team is led by returning runners Stanley Mugo and Evans Kiptoo. Junior college transfer Wesley Ruttoh may also make an impact this season, as he finished fifth overall at EKU’s home meet two weekends ago.

The Colonels were picked by conference head coaches to win their fourth consecutive OVC championship before this season began.

The men’s team travels to the Western Kentucky Old Timers Classic this Saturday while the women’s team will compete in the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic in Nashville on the same day.
