Meet Preview: Oldham County Haunted Woods Classic

The Oldham County Haunted Woods Classic has gotten rave reviews from many runners as an almost brand new meet. This week I'd have to say that it's the meet of the week in the state as a few of the top runners and teams in the state travel to Buckner, KY including the O'Shea's. Looking ahead at the weather it looks as if there will be little to no threat of rain, however may be a little sloppy as the day progresses from the steady rain coming down on Friday.

2018 Girls Varsity 5k

Team-wise it'll be another day where the Oldham County girls attempt come out and show that they're poised to repeat as state champs on their home course. Last weekend they beat the 2nd ranked team in Tennessee, the Brentwood HS girls. One team that I'll be really looking out for are the Sacred Heart girls. Last weekend they went to Cary, NC to the Great American XC Festival and showed out jumping up to the 4th spot in state team projections.

Individuals will be a battle for 2nd place with Ciara O'Shea as the odds on favorite once again. Among a few of those battling it out for #2 will be the Christian Academy of Louisville girls Kaylee Wilson and Addi Dewey with a strong pack of Oldham County girls very close behind including Ella Henage and Grace Wayland, but it seems that Oldham County produces a new #1 runner each week so who knows. Sacred Heart's Sarah Wilkinson will also look to build on an awesome PR performance last weekend and knock down that time once again.

Virtual Meet

2018 Boys Varsity 5k

Last weekend St. Xavier showed out at Great American boosting all the way up to the top of the state leaderboards, however I wouldn't expect to see their top guys out there this weekend and maybe a few more weeks. Still, look for a few of the 4-10 guys to really step up and make their case to be on the postseason team. That leaves the Greater Louisville Classic champs and one of the hottest teams in the state, the Madison Central boys, to lead the charge tomorrow with Conner O'Shea as the favorite in the individual battle. Other than them, it'll be the big time 1A state favorites, Louisville Holy Cross, looking for some more guys to step up behind DK Schnieders

As I mentioned a few times, Conner O'Shea will be the favorite along with his sister as they will most likely be double winners for the 3rd weekend this year. His biggest competitor will be DK Schnieders who had another PR last weekend in Indiana. One thing to keep in mind though is that these two have not faced off this year which means they could be a lot closer than times so far dictate. This weekend look for DK to try and hang with Conner for as long as he can and be on the lookout for a possible upset if DK is on his game. Some others to watch will be the Fern Creek young gun Jimmy Mullarkey and Scott County's Tyler Walker who has flown under the radar all year long despite a sub 16 PR.
