A Youth Movement in the Girls Long Jump Returning Athletes

The girls long jump field is somewhat of a muddied mess with a handful of ladies perfectly capable of being the top jumper. Coming into the season, Johnessah Barbiea from Dayton has the best mark, however it was a full two feet better than her state mark that earned her a third place finish at the class A state meet. The popular name on the list is the freshman all star Sophie Galloway of Graves County. As an 8th grader she was state runner up in the long jump and triple jump. She was also 7th in the 100 hurdles. Her biggest accolade came as she was the middle school state champ in long jump, triple jump and the 300 hurdles while placing second in the 100 hurdles. Watch for her to make some noise up top. My athlete to watch would be Autumn King of Rockcastle County. She won the triple jump in class AA and was third in the long jump. She also qualified in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. She had a solid indoor season so far with a runner up finish at the Wildcat Classic (to Tyler Smith of Dixie Heights who could also be your season leader) and a 18th place finish at the UK High School Invitational with a deep girls national level field.
