Girls Recap

Warrensville Heights ran away with the team competition by getting 28 points from their relays. Warrensville Heights finished the meet with a total of 81 team points to Bishop Hartley's 48 team points

Sprints and Hurdles - Finish Line Photos - 60m - 200m - 400m - 60m Hurldes

There were no double event winners, but a contingent of four different runners all placed in the top four of two different sprints.

In the 60m dash Chesna Sykes, a junior from Bishop Hartley was able to hold sophomore Candace Longino-Thomas of Gilmour Academy by running 7.63 seconds to Longino-Thomas' time of 7.70 seconds. Buchtel senior Christy Campbell finished third in a time of 7.90.

These same three athletes also finished in the top three of the 200m dash, with Longino-Thomas coming out of top by running a 25.11 to Campbell's 25.25. 60m dash winner, Sykes, finished third in a time of 25.57.

Moving on to the 400, Angelique Lykes a senior from Warrensville Heights won by 57.14, just holding off her teamate, Daianna Barron, a junior, who finished in 57.23 seconds. Lykes also finished fourth in the 200m dash in a time of 25.66.

In the hurdles, sophomore Jerica Sanders of Lake Catholic took home the gold by running a personal record time of 9.20 seconds to hold off Smithville senior Karissa Dalessandro (9.22) by a mere two-hundreths of a second.

Distance - Finish Line Photos - 800m - 1600m - 3200m

Gilmour Academy had another event champion to go along with Longino-Thomas in junior Bekka Simko. Simko won the 800m in a time of 2:21.07, just ahead of runner up Jessica Phillips, a junior from Seneca East, who finished in 2:21.93. Of note is that the top three finishers in this event, Simko, Phillips and Julianna Libertin from Archbishop Hoban (2:23.00) all are juniors, so this could be a very hotly contested event come outdoor season and next year during the indoor season.

In the 1600m Libertin of Hoban climbed to the top of the podium by crossing the line in 5:11.36. Senior Erin Mercer of Woodridge captured the runner up honors in a time of 5:12.04, while eventual 3200m champion Mallory Kreider, a junior from Edgewood-Ashtabula, finished the 1600m in a time of 5:16.86.

Kreider won the 3200m with ease, over ten seconds in front of runner up junior Alex Bowers of Berkshire. Kreider's time was 11:25.65 to Bowers' time of 11:36.74.

Relays - Finish Line Photos - 4x200m - 4x400m - 4x800m

The relays belong to Warrensville Heights who took top honors in two of the relays and finished runner up in the third relay.

In the 4x200m, Bishop Hartley ran away with from the field, finishing nearly two seconds ahead of second place Warrensville Heights. Hartley finished in 1:42.39 while Warrensville Heights ran a 1:44.15.

In the 4x400m, Warrensville Heights got the better fo Bishop Hartley, and this time Warrensville Heights ran away from the field, winning by over 12 seconds. Warrensville Heights finished with a time of 3:53.62 to Hartley's time of 4:05.78.

Warrensville Heights matched their 4x400m effort in the 4x800m by finished over 15 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Warrensville Heights finished in 9:49.36 to runner up Seneca East's 10:04.82.

Jumps

The pole vault belonged to senior Kayla Caldwell of Indian Valley. Caldwell easily won the event, clearing 2'5" higher than any other competitor. After clearing 12'5", Caldwell took three solid attempts at 12'10, but was unable to cleanly clear the bar.

Sophomore Jordan Moxley of Maplewood took home the gold in the high jump, clearing 5'5" for the victory.

Wright State University bound seionr Kylie Kopp of Bethel claimed the top honors in the long jump by soaring 16'11.75". Sophomore Julia Evans of Big Walnut also jumped 16'11.75, but Kopp recieved the gold due to having a better second jump.

In the triple jump Noelle Johnson, a senior from Warrensville Heights, was able to hold on to the victory by jumping 34'9.5", while long jump runner up, Evans, agian finished second with a leap of 34'2.5"

Throws

Erin Pendleton was able to repeat her 2008 performance from the OATCCC Indoor Championship by again capturing both the shot put and weight throw titles. Pendleton threw a personal record of 41'8" to take home the gold in the shot put over runner up Brittany Funk (38'1.25), a junior from Hillsdale. And in the weight throw, Pendleton threw an impressive 51'1.5" to distance herself from fellow senior Anna Knapski of Canton South, who threw 43'9.5" for the silver medal.

Boys Recap

Eastwood dominated the meet by having big points in the field events. Eastwood scored 81.5 team points to distance itself from the runner up Bishop Hartley, who scored 36 team points. Hartley also finished runner up in the girls meet.

Sprints and Hurdles - Finish Line Photos - 60m - 200m - 400m - 60m Hurldes

In the 60m dash, the favorite, Fitzgerald Toussaint, a senior from Liberty was able to hold off Nick Melone, a junior from Columbiana, by crossing the line 6.96 seconds to Melone's 7.04 seconds.

Norwayne senior Cody Miller won the 400m dash by just dipping below 49 seconds for the first time this season. Miller's time of 48.99 seconds was nearly two seconds faster than London senior Ethan Freet's time of 50.82 seconds. Miller also finished fourth in the 200m with a time of 22.45 seconds.

In the 200m, Bishop Hartley senior Rufus Walls ran a personal record time of 21.86 to capture the gold and to hold off Trinity senior John Bobak, who finished in 22.06 seconds to take home the silver medal.

Coty Cochran, a senior from River View, repeated as the state champion in the 60m hurdles by running 8.13 seconds. Cochran was pushed by SVSM sophomore Doran Grant who finished just behind Cochran in 8.15 seconds.

Distance - Finish Line Photos - 800m - 1600m - 3200m

Senior Zach Lathrop of River Valley-Caledonia held off junior Joseph DeRosa of East Canton, 1:59.00 to 1:59.99 in the 800m.

In the 1600m, junior Eric Rupe of Maplewood won with a time of 4:23.75, while runner up Michael Brajdic, a sophomore from Bay, finished in a time of 4:27.68. Brajdic also finished fourth in the 3200m with a time of 9:42.53.

Colton Johnson, a senior from Mount Gilead caputred the gold medal in the 3200m with a time of 9:36.26, while Circleville junior Brad Liston finished as the runner up in a time of 9:38.11.

Relays - Finish Line Photos - 4x200m - 4x400m - 4x800m

Bishop Hartley owned the sprint relays by winning both the 4x200m relay and the 4x400m relay. In the 4x200m relay Hartley finished with a time of 1:31.58, over a second faster than the runner up team from Clyde (1:32.76).

In the 4x400m relay Bishop Hartley finished nearly four seconds ahead of the runner up team of Eastwood, 3:25.31 to 3:29.05.

The 4x800m relay was won in a time of 8:13.18 by the team from Defiance. Defiance opened up the lead on the final leg of the race to distance itself from runner up Tippecanoe who finished by running 8:20.51.

Jumps

Three athletes cleared 14'4" in the pole vault, but the only one was able to take home the gold medal. Junior Cody Marshall of East Canton was the winner of the pole vault winning on fewer misses. Shawn Light, a senior from Meadowbrook captured the silver medal while junior Brandon Eddy of Cuyahoga Heights took home the bronze.

In the long jump Delta senior Korbin Smith won the event by soaring 23'1" through the air. Eastwood's Josh Hoodlebrink took home the silver medal, by jumping 22'5.5".

Josh Hoodlebrink also won two gold medals. The first medal came from the high jump, where J. Hoodlebrink was a ble to clear 6'7.25", while runner up Jason Hoskins, a junior from Olentangy Orange cleared 6'6" for the silver medal.

Josh Hoodlebrink's second gold medal came in the triple jump, where he was able to come back on his last jump and steal the gold medal from his brother Lucas. Josh was able to go 43'4" to Lucas' jump of 43'1". Long Jump champion Korbin Smith finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 42'1".

Throws

Justin Welch just keeps improving in the 25lbs. weight throw. After coming off a personal record throw of 75'9" at the National Schoolastic Indoor Championship in New York last weekend, Welch was able to uncork another bomb to improve his best mark of the year to 76'1", the third best throw in the nation this year. Sophomore Duvell Smith of Lutheran East was a surprise runner up finisher. Smith improved nearly seven feet on his previous best throw to capture the silver medal with a toss of 61'9".

In the Shot put, senior DJ Duke of River popped off a 62'0" heave to win the state title. Duke's throw is the ninth best indoor throw in the nation this year. Weight Throw champion, Justin Welch, finished second in the shot put by throwing 60'4".

Girls Recap

Collinwood was able to capture the girls team title over runner Reynoldsburg by scoring in ten of the sixteen events. Collinwood tallied 72.5 team points to Reynoldsburg's 57 points.

Sprints and Hurdles - Finish Line Photos - 60m - 200m - 400m - 60m Hurldes

Mahagony Jones, Mahagony Jones, Mahagony Jones. That is who won the 60m (7.49, 8th fastest time in the nation), the 200m (24.44, 10th) and the 400m (55.52, 8th), and all in US top 10 times. The real race in these three sprints were for who would finish second.

In the 60m dash, seniors dominated the race, with Jones taking the gold, Jessica Grant (7.82) of Wadsworth taking the silver and Olyvia Griffin (7.87) of Wayne bringing home the bronze.

The runner up in the 200m dash was Reynoldsburg Freshman Destinee Gause who finished in 24.91 seconds for the silver medal. Amber Smith the eventual two time gold medalist (LJ, 60m Hurdles) finished in third with a time of 25.52.

Jade Barber, a sophomore from Midpark was the runner up in the 400m dash in a time of 56.67 seconds, while Princeton freshman Claudia Sanders took home the bronze in a time of 57.42 seconds.

Collinwood junior Amber Smith won the 60m hurdles in a time 8.73 seconds over runner up Brittany Cheese, a senior from Hilliard Davidson, who finished in a time of 8.88 seconds.

Distance - Finish Line Photos - 800m - 1600m - 3200m

Sophomore Taneisha Cordell of Reynoldsbug rolled to a four second victory in the 800m by running 2:15.23. Runner up Shaina Corbin, a sophomore from Ashland crossed the line in a time of 2:19.24.

North Royalton sophomore Hannah Neczypor blazed a sub 5-minute 1600m, finishing 5:54.38 to capture the gold and the ninth fastest time in the nation. Taking home the silver was junior Madeline Chambers of Magnificat, who crossed the line in 5:00.42 seconds. The bronze went to eventual 3200 champ, Michelle Thomas, a sophomore from Glen Este, who finished in 5:02.96.

Michelle Thomas jumped out to an early lead in the 3200m and never looked back. Thomas ran a stellar 11:12.96 to distance herself from the junior twins from Magnificat, Abby and Claire Fischer. Abby Fischer finished in second with a 11:33.62, just ahead of Claire who came in at 11:34.88 for the bronze.

Relays - Finish Line Photos - 4x200m Heat 3 - 4x200m Heat 2 - 4x400m - 4x800m

Reynoldsburg controlled the sprint relays by winning both the 4x200m relay and the 4x400m relay by nearly two seconds in each race. In the 4x200m relay Reynoldsburg went 1:40.62 to beat Collinwood's effort of 1:42.48, while in the 4x400m relay Reynoldsburg ran 3:52.40 to Collinwood's 3:54.66.

In the 4x800m relay Magnificat rolled to a twenty second victory over Euclid in a time of 9:27.82 to Euclid's 9:47.41.

Jumps

Medina sophomore Taylor Burke recaptured the US#1 spot in the high jump by clearing 5'11". Taylor had previously held the US#1 mark at 5'10", but a senior from Virginia had cleared 5'10.5" last weekend at the NSIC meet in New York. Senior Kelsey Couts of Olentangy Liberty finished in second place by clearing 5'5".

In the pole vault, two girls cleared 11'0", but senior Ally Wood of Thomas Worthington was the gold medalist due to less misses. The silver medal went to Midpark senior Domenica Rossi.

Amber Smith of Collinwood added another gold medal to her neck by winning the long jump with a leap of 18'6". The difference between second and third place came down to a quarter of an inch. Senior Kristen Bennett of Wadsworth was able to leap 18'2.25" to Collinwood junior Erin Busbee's 18'2.0".

Busbee was able to come back from a third place finish in the long jump to win the triple jump with a leapt of 37'7", over two feet ahead of her closest competition. Finishing in the runner up position was Alex Paskell of Solon who hopped skipped and jumped her way to a 35'4" effort.

Throws

Senior Brittany Wilson of Harrison opened the shot put with a big throw of 43'3.5" which took the wind out of the rest of the competitors. Wilson's first throw would have easily garnered her the shot put title, but she was not done with tossing bombs as she would ultimately throw a personal record of over two and a half feet during the finals to finish with a mark of 44'5.5" and the tenth best indoor throw in the nation. Second place finisher Stephanie Tanner, a senior from Wadsworth, heaved the shot put 38'11.75 inches.

In the weight throw, senior Alexis Thomas, coming off of a fifth place finish in the shot put, showed her dominance in the weight throw on her first attempt by heaving the 20lbs. weight 50'7". Thomas came back on her second throw and launched a 53'7.5" effort, which is the farthest throw in the state and the ninth best throw in the nation. Placing runner up was sophomore Ali Tolich of Austintown Fitch, who threw a personal record of 46'1.5" to take home the silver

Boys Recap

Glenville was able to hold off Trotwood-Madison's push to repeat as the Indoor Team Champion due in part to their strong relays and long sprints points. Glenville totaled 48 points to Trotwood's 40 points.

Sprints and Hurdles - Finish Line Photos - 60m - 200m - 400m - 60m Hurldes

Mark Mays, a senior from Northmont was able to hold of Wayne junior Demoye Bogle to capture the gold in the 60m dash by a mere 1/100th of second, 6.87 to 6.88 seconds. Bogle would later finish fourth in the 200m dash in a time of 22.19.

Will Henry, a junior from Trotwood Madison cruised to a victory in the 400m dash by blazing the US#7 mark for the season with a time of 47.91. Senior Keith Cleveland (49.06) of Shaker Heights was able to finish just ahead of Northmont senior Javon Walker (49.10) for the silver medal.

In the 200m dash junior Seth Cunningham of St. Edward dipped below 22.0 seconds for the first time this season and upset heavily favored Will Henry. Cunningham ran 21.85 seconds to Henry's time of 22.09 seconds.

Sandusky senior Dailyn Moore ran an impressive 7.96 seconds in the 60m hurdles. Moore's time is tied for the 11th fastest time in the nation this season. Runner up Herman Washington of Gahanna-Lincoln finished in a time of 8.08 seconds.

Distance - Finish Line Photos - 800m - 1600m - 3200m

The most impressive performance in the boys Division 1 meet had to come from Vandalia-Butler senior Danny Neff. Neff cruised to a first place finish in the 1600m in a time of 4:12.38, and he was not pushed from the first lap on. If the 4:12 1600m indoors wasn't impressive enough, Neff came back in about 30-40 minutes to win the 800m in a time of 1:53.49 to John Adams senior Willie Brown's time of 1:53.52. Coming off the final curve Neff steadily reeled in Brown, who had about a 10 meter lead, to take home his second gold medal of the meet. Neff's time of 1:53.49, and Brown's time of 1:53.52 are the 8th and 9th best times in the nation this season, respectively.

Senior Donny Roys of Medina was able to hold off St. Johns Jesuit senior Kevin Yarnell to finish runner up in the 1600m in a time of 4:17.84 to Yarnell's 4:18.28.

In the 3200m, senior Yoshi Shimizu of Hilliard Davidson was able to out kick Solon senior Jeremy Schiele for the gold. Shimizu finished in 9:26.91 to Schiele's 9:27.57.

Relays - Finish Line Photos - 4x200m - 4x400m - 4x800m

Glenville controlled the relays by taking gold in the 4x200m relay and the 4x800m relay and finishing second in the 4x400m relay. In the 4x200m relay Glenville held off Warren G. Harding, 1:28.83 to Harding's 1:29.42, for the victory. Glenville's time is the 3rd fastest 4x200m time in the nation, while Warren G. Harding's time is the 9th fastest time in the nation.

In the 4x800m relay, Glenville held off the team from Gahanna-Lincoln, 8:05.33 to 8:06.58 for the victory.

Glenville had to settle for second in the 4x400m relay, but they were still able to run the fifth fastest time in the nation in this event with a 3:18.75 effort. Trotwood-Madison won the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:17.96 (Trotwood's time of 3:17.05 at Kent State #3 is still the second fastest time in the nation).

Jumps

In the pole vault, two athletes cleared 15'6", but the gold medalist was sophomore sensation Joey Uhle of Olentangy Liberty who won by clearing 15'6" on his first attempt. Chadd Pierce, a senior from Solon, also cleared 15'6", but had to settle for the silver.

Eugene Cannaday of Big Walnut had quite the impressive days in the jumps. Cannaday won the long jump over Lexington senior Antonio Pickens by leaping 22'10.25" to Pickens' 22'6.75". Cannaday passed all three of his jumps in the final so he could focus on the high jump, where he placed third by clearing 6'9". In the triple jump Cannaday was able to just barely beat out Boardman senior Caleb Matthews. Cannaday jumped 45'3.5" on his first jump while Matthews gave a scare late in the competition by going 45:3.25" on his final attempt.

Dwayne King, a senior from Cleveland Heights, was able to clear 6'10" for the victory over a handful of competitors that were able to clear 6'9". Trotwood senior Dominique Reed was the silver medalist because he had less misses. Others to clear 6'9" were Cannaday and Shaker Heights senior Kenneth Agee.

Throws

In a surprise upset, junior Dustin Brode of Canfield captured the weight throw title by heaving the 25lbs. wieght 62'5.5", nearly a four and a half foot personal record for Brode on his final attempt. Event favorite, Mount Vernon senior Lucas Ferguson, coming off of a strong showing last weekend at the NSIC meet in New York, was leading into the final round, but could not respond to Brode's bomb and finished with a throw of 60'11". Sophomore Mike Bennett of Centerville pulled off an impressive 57'3" one-turn throw to take home the bronze.

In the shot put, senior Corey Linsley of Boardman tossed the 12lbs. ball 58'8.75" on his first throw, which was good enough to secure the gold medal for his efforts. Runner up Zach Marinucci, a senior from Brunswick, heaved the shot 58'7" to take home the silver. Weight throw winner Dustin Brode took home the bronze medal with a throw of 55'4.5".
