Eight Kentucky Athletes to Run at the USA Cross Country Championships

2009 USA Cross Country Championships

The State of Kentucky will be well represented at the USA Cross Country Championships being held in Derwood, Maryland.

Girl’s Junior Championship

For probably the first time ever a team from Kentucky will toe the line in the Junior Championship.  Derby City Athletic Club consisting of Emme McAtee (Sacred Heart), Sara Davis (Assumption), Allison Riedling (Assumption), and Amy Stamon (Assumption) are attempting a 6000 Meter Run for the first time in their young careers. 2008 Assumption graduate Adrienne Curtis, now running for Southern Indiana University will also participate in the Junior Race.

Men’s Open Division

Three former Kentucky greats will compete in the 12,000 Meter Open Championship.  Former St. Xavier and Villanova runner Bobby Curtis, the 2008 NCAA 5000m Champion, former Lexington Catholic and University of Kentucky runner Thomas Morgan are no surprises to be in Maryland.  The third name is more of a surprise Devin Swann formerly of Daviess County and North Carolina State University.  Swann finished 12th at the USA 5K Championship in September with a 14:35.  Morgan finished sixth in the same race in 14:11.  Curtis is considered a possible darkhorse in the Open Race.
