CLAITT NO. 2 IN THE WORLD, NAMED OVC FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

April 12, 2017

For Immediate Release

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Eastern Kentucky University sophomore high jumper Tequan Claitt has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Claitt recorded the top high jump in the NCAA on Saturday at WKU's Hilltopper Relays, shattering EKU's 35-year old school record in the event with a 7'5.75".

It is the top jump by any American (professional, collegiate, etc.) and tied for the No. 2 jump in the world this year.

It is also a four-inch personal best for Claitt. His previous best mark was 7'1.75", which he recorded at the OVC Indoor Championships in February.

EKU's previous record in the high jump was 7'5", set by Ken Glover in 1982. Glover was the NCAA runner-up in the high jump that year.

Claitt was the 2016 OVC indoor and outdoor high jump champion. The native of Lexington, Kentucky finished 16th at the NCAA East Region Preliminaries last spring, just missing out on a trip to Eugene for the NCAA Championships. He recorded the fourth-best jump of any freshman in the country last season (7'1.5").
