Lutisha Bowen Named Girls KY Gatorade Track Athlete of the Year

Lutisha Bowen of Ballard High in Louisville.

On her final try, the senior sprinter and hurdler and jumper finally won her first state title, placing first in the 100-meter hurdles race with a time of 14.34 seconds at the Class AAA state meet, and helping the Bruins to a state championship. Bowen placed second in three events: the 300-meter hurdles, the 200-meter dash and the triple jump, giving her nine runner-up finishes for her career. The 2007-08 Kentucky Indoor Sprinter of the Year, Bowen won the 400-meter event, the 55-meter dash and the triple jump at the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Indoor State Meet.

Bowen has maintained a 3.0 GPA in the classroom. She volunteers as part of multiple community-service initiatives on behalf of the Fellowship for Christian Athletes and is a member of the Spanish Club. Bowen also was a manager for the Ballard High varsity and junior varsity football teams.

“From what I've seen watching her grow over the last four years, she's put in a massive amount of hard work,” said Stephanie Barnes, head coach at rival Butler High. “She's not just running to win. She's running to get the best possible times she can. Tish never backs down to anybody.”

Bowen remains undecided on her collegiate destination for this fall.
