3rd Annual KYtrackXC Indoor Awards: Boys Winners

 

Sprinter of the Year: Justin Green (Male) and Gerry Cooper (duPont Manual)

 

Green and Cooper went head-to-head two times this season in the 60 Meter Dash in Lexington, each time with different results.  Cooper won the 60 Meter Dash at the Wildcat Classic with a time of 6.99, setting the Wildcat Classic record.  In this meet, Green was second running a 7.04.  One month later at the UK High School Invitational, the duo met again in the finals of the 60 Meter Dash, this time with Green getting the best of Cooper.  Green finished 4th with a 6.95 and Cooper was 6th with a 6.99.

Distance Runner of the Year: Trent Halasek (Scott County)

 

Coming into this Indoor Track season, Trent Halasek had only run under the elusive 2:00 mark once with a career best of 1:59.37 in the 800 Meter Run.  After an impressive indoor season, he can add two more to that with a best of 1:56.90, the top time in the event for the state of Kentucky.  He finished second at the Wildcat Classic and fourth at the UK High School Invitational in the 800 Meter Run.

1600 Meter Run: 4:54.

 

Field Event Athlete of the Year: Adam Hobson (Henderson County)

 

Adam Hobson vaulted a career best 14-06 to win the Henderson County Indoor Meet held in February.  This performance was the best in the state of Kentucky during Indoor Track.  Hobson went on to finish 5th at the UK High School Invitational.  He was the 2007 Kentucky State Class AAA State Meet Runner-up in the Pole Vault.
