Nikki Coffey Named Mid-South Frosh of the Year, Qualifies for Nationals

Nikki Coffey finished third and Maria Cozzens finished seventh to propel Lindsey Wilson women's cross country to a runner-up team finish at the Mid-South Conference Cross Country Championships in Bowling Green, Ky. on Saturday.

Coffey, who was the third to finish the 5k course at Phil Moore Park in a time of 18:56.7, and Cozzens, who crossed the line in seventh-place with a time of 19:26.2, both received first-team all conference honors and automatic qualifiers to the NAIA Cross Country Championship on Nov. 21 in Charlotte, N.C. Coffey also received MSC Freshman of the Year honors after recording the highest finish as a freshman in the competition.

Finishing third for the Blue Raiders was Kaylin Anderson, who finished in 23rd place with a time of 20:39.6. Anderson was followed by Allyson Davis, who crossed the line in 28th place with a time of 21:05.1. Rounding out the scoring for the Blue Raiders was Heather Wilson, who finished in 31st with a time of 21:24.6.

The sixth and seventh Lindsey Wilson runners to cross the line were Breana Conway, who finished in 32nd place with a time of 21:27.8, and Mia Cornette, who cross the line 47th with a time of 22:33.1.

The Blue Raiders scored 81 points and were the final team under 100 points.

Shawnee State (Ohio) placed four runners in the top-five and five runners in the top-six finishers to win the MSC team title with a total of 18 points. The Bears earned the automatic team qualifier for the national championships.

Coffey and Cozzens will both be racing at the NAIA Cross Country Championships at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C., on Nov. 21.
