KYtrackXC.com: Goals for 2007

AC: I want to lead my team in a successful cross country season. My main goal is
to run my best race possible at in the Girl's AAA State meet. I was
disappointed with how I performed at state last year, so hopefully I can
come back my senior year and run a different race there. I would also like
to break 19 minutes for my 5K.

KYtrackXC.com: Favorite Course

AC: My favorite course is McAlpine Creek Park, where the Footlocker South
Regional is held. It is a fast course with just a few hills. I always like
running my last race of the season there and trying to get one final PR.

KYtrackXC.com: Favorite Race

AC: I think my favorite race is the Tiger Run. This will be my fifth time
running in that race. Everyone gets really excited for it because it is the
first race of the season and a lot of good teams show up for that race. It
is always interesting to see what kind of shape everyone is in.

KYtrackXC.com: Describe Assumption as a team

AC: I think there are close to 100 girls on our cross country team, so obviously
we have a lot of girls meeting for practices at Seneca Park. Anyone is
welcome to run cross country, so I'm always encouraging girls to come to
practice and give it a try. Our team is very supportive of one another. The
girls are always telling each other good job and encouraging their
teammates. I love how our team has fun together. We do things like have
picnics, go the theme parks, and of course pasta parties. One very unique
thing about Assumption's practices is our Wacky Wednesdays. Once a week we
have a theme and everyone dresses up in crazy costumes to run in. This has
been a tradition since before I even came to Assumption. One time our theme
was dress up like Barry Haworth! That was very a funny practice.

KYtrackXC.com: What colleges are you looking at for next year?

AC: It's really weird to think that next year I'll be in college! High school
has really flown by! I'm keeping my options open right now. I visited the
University of Dayton last spring and I really liked it there. I'm also
planning on visiting Western Kentucky, Murray State, and Northern Kentucky.
I just want to find a school with good academics along with a solid running
program.

KYtrackXC.com: Give me the scoop.  Tell something embarrassing or funny Coach Haworth has done?

AC: Barry is quite the character! You can usually spot him that the races
cheering on for everyone he knows while wearing his hot pink Powerpuff
Girl's t-shirt. Barry likes to talk the entire time on our distance runs. He
can talk about anything too, including the teenager shows he keeps up with
like Laguna Beach and Real World. I think one of his favorites is America's
Next Top Model.

KYtrackXC.com: What is your favorite workout or practice?

AC: My teammates will roll their eyes if they read this, but my favorite
workouts are the tempo runs we do. Those runs are almost like mini races for
me. I like to push myself and see improvement on those runs over the season.

KYtrackXC.com: Are you looking forward to the trip out west to the Granite Bay
Invitational in California?

AC: I'm really excited to be traveling to California! I feel lucky to have a
coach who wants to take 16 girls across the country to run. The day after
the race our team is spending a day in San Francisco, so I'm especially
pumped for that! These trips bring our girls a lot closer. We have a great
group of girls at Assumption and the team feels like a family to me during
the season.

(The following questions were added this week)

KYtrackXC.com: How was the trip to California?

AC: I had a blast in California! Our team bonded a lot and we also won the race we went to. The weather was really hot! The sun felt like it was inches away from my face. It definitely felt a lot different than Kentucky weather.  It was so hot that the race was cut back from a 5K race to a 2 mile. The best part of the trip was all the shopping we did. The day after the race the team went to San Francisco and toured the city. By the end of the day all the girls were hauling around bags of clothes.

KYtrackXC.com: What are your thoughts on the season so far?

AC: We still have a long way to go until the State meet. My team has been doing some pretty tough workouts so I think we’ll be ready for our big meets.

KYtrackXC.com: Any other comments?

AC: I want to say thank you to my coach, parents, and everyone who has supported
me through high school. Also good luck to everyone in their training and
racing this year.
