DEANNA PATRICK - Boyd County

Deanna Patrick was a thrower ahead of her time back in the mid-70’s.  Coached by KTCCCA Hall of Fame Coach Bob Stacey she moved on the state scene in 1974 she was State Runner up in the Shot Put at 39’7 but she came back with vengeance in 1975 and was the First Kentucky Female to break 41 feet with a throw of 41’5” for a new state meet record with the 8 pound ball.  But her best was yet to come as in 1976 the Boyd County Senior broke the state meet records in both the shot put and discus.  She broke her own shot put record by nearly 5’ with a throw of 45’08.5” while in the Discus she threw nearly 5’ over the old record with a throw of 136’1.  Her Discus record remained a Class AA State Record for 29 years until broken by Pam Bell of Paducah Tilghman in 2005.  Her discus record still ranks as the 3rd longest throw in Kentucky Female Discus Circle.

She was a two time champion in the Mason Dixon Games in the Shot Put.  With her throws in the 1976 KHSAA State Track and Field Meet she qualified for the USATF Junior Nationals in New York where her performances placed her on the United States Junior Olympic Team that competed in Russia and Germany.

At the collegiate level Deanna stayed close to home and attended Morehead State University with KTCCCA Hall of Fame Coach Buck Dawson.  At Morehead in 1977  she threw 49’8.5” and 142’5” to establish Morehead School Records that still stand to this day 37 years later.

She then transferred to the University of Kentucky for one year and then to Ohio University Southern and her strong right arm was still going strong as she continue with some sparkling performances . . .
