Spalding Men Win SLIAC Championship

ST. LOUIS - The Spalding University men's cross country team claimed the 2014 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country team championship Saturday, marking the second time in three years SU has won the crown.
 
The Golden Eagles placed six runners in the top 15 spots of the race, totaling 41 team points. Nathan Mark and Brandon Price ran the majority of the race as a pair and finished 3rd and 4th respectively with times of 26:29 and 26:31. Tyler Edmondson claimed 9th place with a time of 27:27 to give SU three runners in the top 10.
 
Allen Matthews finished just outside the top 10 in 11th place navigating the course in 27:35. Cory Heslin and Spencer Mitchell were next in the Spalding group finishing 14th and 15th with times of 27:42 and 27:45.
 
Forrest Coffey rounded out Spalding's top-7 with a 27th place finish with a time of 28:37, and Colin Schell finished two spots back in 29th.
 
At the conclusion of the race Spalding's Nathan Mark and Brandon Price were named First Team All-Conference, and Head Coach Kevin Alessandro was named 2014 Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
