AA GIRLS

Defending State Champs Central are gone as they were shipped off to Class AAA by the KHSAA after last summer's realignment.  The Class AA State Team Champs job has a helped wanted sign out in the yard, the question is who wants it most?

Team Race

North Oldham looks to be the favorite coming into the Class AA State Championship.  They are balanced with sprints, distance, relays, throws, and vault.  They have two young but very good 200/400 girls in Nicole Moeller and Erin Olsson.  Just a 9th and 11th grader these two pack a punch.  They are both potential winners in the 400m Dash (great race to watch today.)  They lead the #1 seeded 4x2 and 4x4.  North has Erin Edmundson in the 800/1600m.  She has an uphill fight with Gabby Karas leading the charge in the races but she will score very well in both events.   Maggie Mollak leads the throws in the Discus and Shot Put with potential of another 10 plus points there.  Haley Oliver is point bound in the Vault.

Lexington Catholic  finished up the season #1 in the last KYtrackXC.com Class AA State Rankings and they have big point scorer for Friday.  The Mangold (Bridgette & Camille) girls will battle each other in the Pole Vault with 18 points there.  Bridgette will also score in the hurdle events.  Michaela Reinhart is right in the mix in the 1600/3200 big points there.  Lauren Phillips will score heavy in the jumps.  The team lacks for depth but all of the scorers should be big.

Western Hills is similiar to Lexington Catholic, big point scorers and a lack of depth.  Anna Curlin will load up in the 100, 200, 400, and long jump.  Alaina Hall is the #1 seed in the 300m hurdles based on the 2014 season times and will also score in the 100m Hurdles.  Aja Leachman will get big points in both throws events.

Events to Watch

Girls 400m Dash - nasty loaded with potential to throw down a great time.  Erin Olsson, Anna Curlin, Nicole Moeller, Shannon Martin, and Zantori Dickerson all have run UNDER 59 seconds.  Shall we say high 56s!!!!!!

Girls Distance - Gabby Karas pulled off the major trifecta at the Regional Championship with 3 PRS 4:55.14/2:16.60/10:45.23.  These are all within range of at least the Class AA State Records and Aleja Grant from Paducah Tilghman is just the runner to help push the time.  Grant likes to get out fast and push early which is Gabby's style as well.  Michaela Reinhart and Erin Edmundson will be right behind them near the front.  CAL's Hannah Herd & Clara Lynch along with the Highland duo of Molly Mearns and Chloe Gastright will try to mix it as well.

Shannon Martin of Waggener is one to watch in the sprints,  talented but gets to hide behind the scenes as she usually runs in smaller meets.  The State Meet is now the big stage, watch out!!

Girls 4x2 has three up front that have run 1:47 this year in North Oldham, Fort Campbell, and Waggener.

The Field Events have a great Discus match-up in Lilli Popovich and Aja Leachman up front.

Just a glimpse, but should be a great day of racing and competing.
