Former Williamsburg Athlete Cameron Smoak Named Mid-South Conference Field Event Athlete of the Week

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Track and Field program is highly touted every year in the Mid-South Conference (MSC).  With numerous individuals placing in the top 10 in events each and every week, the Patriots are looking to pull all that momentum together and win an MSC Championship this season.  One Patriot had a great showing last week and for his efforts was rewarded.

UC freshman Cameron Smoak (Williamsburg, KY) was named the MSC Field Athlete of the Week, conference officials announced on Tuesday.  The weekly award is the first of the season for Smoak and also the first of his career.

Cameron produced a pair of top 10 finishes at the Emory Classic in Atlanta over the weekend to take home the conference’s field award.  He earned a 2nd place finish in the 18-man shot put with a toss of 44 feet (13.41m).  Smoak’s distance was good enough to earn eight points towards the 100.5 team points for the Patriots.  Smoak earned his second top 10 finish of the day in the javelin throw with a distance of 133-3 feet (40.61m).  He finished 7th out of 15 participants to score two points.  Cumberlands finished third out of the 14 teams that scored.

The Patriots will be back in action this weekend as they split their team and travel to compete at both Centre College and Bellarmine University.
