Webster County's Iszack Whitsell Signs with Morehead State

Webster County's Iszack Whitsell To Race For Morehead State

Iszack Whitsell has signed a national letter of intent to race in cross country and track for Morehead State University this week.

"Morehead State's strong science and technology program with top notch facilities will be a great place to fulfill my interest in Physics.  With a long term desire to pursue the engineering field, I know Morehead is an ideal environment to facilitate my academic development", said Whitsell.

Athletically, Iszack chose Morehead State over Western Kentucky University, Northern Kentucky University, Travecca Nazarene, and University of Cumberlands based on the strength of the Eagles program under the leadership of former Olympic coach Brent Ericksen.

The Morehead State University men's team has been the most improved in NCAA Division I cross county over the last three seasons.  The Eagles placed 14th in the NCAA Southeast Regionals in 2013.  This was a huge accomplishment compared to where the team finished three years ago (28th out of 35 in 2010) before Coach Ericksen took over the program.

"I look forward to the many challenges that lay ahead and am extremely grateful for the offers to continue running collegiately", Whitsell said.  "From a running standpoint, I chose Morehead because the teams, Coach Ericksen, and I share identical goals.  We all aspire to develop our running talents to 100% of our capabilities.  Ericksen individualizes all athletes training and gets results; he is a developer of talent.  In my discernment, I was careful to choose a team where everyone gets faster each season and over the course of a career.  I could not find another program in our geographic region where a coach can prove such measurable growth from all athletes.  I am continuing to run so I can get faster.  Morehead is the place to do it at.  Just look at their results I am excited to be an Eagle."
