Former St. Henry Runner Lindsey Hinken Named Sun Belt Runner of the Week

HINKEN CAPTURES SBC RUNNER OF THE WEEK HONORS

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. WKU sophomore cross country runner Lindsey Hinken nabbed her first-career Sun Belt Conference Female Runner of the Week honor on Wednesday afternoon after her performance at last weekend’s Evansville Invitational.

Hinken shattered her personal record 5K time by nearly 17 seconds with a time of 17:38.56 while leading the Lady Toppers to their first team title of the 2013 season. Hinken’s time was the fastest by a WKU runner this season and earner her runner-up honors for the second time in her career. Her second-place finish marked the fifth time in she has led the Lady Toppers in a cross country race in her young career.

Hinken is the first Lady Topper runner to notch the weekly award from the Sun Belt Conference since former NCAA Championship qualifier Marion Kandie accomplished the feat during the 2011 season.

Hinken’s award is the second by a WKU cross country runner this season, as junior David Mokone garnered the SBC Male Runner of the Week award on Sept. 4. Both Hinken and Mokone lead WKU into the Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships, which will be ran in Troy, Ala. on Nov. 2.
