Movers & Shakers of Week 2

Movers & Shakers Week 2

A Look at Who/What is Moving Around and Shaking Up the Order of XC in Kentucky.

 - St. Henry Girls were rocking this past weekend at Grant County with four runners under 20:01 led by Samantha Hentz in 2nd with a 19:18.  The Class A #1 ranked ladies also took down AA #1 Highlands, claiming the spot as the top girls school in NKY.

-  Lexington Catholic's Michaela Reinhart pulled off her 2nd straight high school victory in just her 2nd high school race.  New PR time of 18:33.3 in the process.

-  Bishop Brossart's Michael Caldwell battled fellow Class A opponents Eric Baugh & Hunter Trenary at Grant County.  Caldwell rolled to victory with a 15:40, Baugh 2nd at 15:47, and Trenary 3rd at 15:58. Track down Nicholas Waltman, Jonathan Taylor, and Matt Bode for a big Class A top six showdown.

- Last week at Tiger Run, Covington Catholic defeated Pr-Season Class AA #1 North Oldham.  This past weekend at Grant County, it was Highlands turn.  They took down Covington Catholic  68-77.  AA Boys is wide open, who turn will it be next.

- Daviess County's Daniel Southard pulled off a nice 2nd place finish in Ohio.  Cooper and Trinity went head to head with Trinity winning big, but through four it was all Cooper.  Trinity finished higher based on a better 5th runner, but it was awesome head to head match-up.

- Assumption, Daviess County, and Oldham County matched up in Ohio on the girls side.  Assumption was without defending state champ, Bailey Davis and Katherine Receveur but still pulled 2nd place.  Senior Emily Bean was 14th at 19:10 with the next four coming in within 52 seconds.  Assumption's depth pays off.

- Nice battle up front for KY with a Whitney O'Bryan, Caroline Grogan, and Amelia Reynolds all in the top 11.

- The next four years in Class AA Girls should be one to watch. XC State Record Holder Gabby Karas from Martha Layne Collins, Lexington Catholic's Michaela Reinhart, and South Warren's Caroline Haas are all  just now freshmen.  They along with a great group of sophomores including Molly Mearns and Erin Edmundson make the future bright up front in Class AA XC & track.   For now, don't forget about the veterans like Aleja Grant (19:09 at Murray) & Hannah Godfrey (19:32 in Etown) either.

- Iszack Whitsell of Webster County has not been in a position to finish 1st this season yet, but has been right up front in every race .  He was 2nd at Madisonville and 2nd this past week at Owensboro.  Early season race strategy that should play out similar to Class AA state this year.

- Rachel Keeley of Owensboro wins her 2nd race in a row this season at Owensboro after Madisonville last week.

- Two names stick out from Shelby County, winner Ben Young of Tates Creek, big PR of 16:24 and Jay Solinger of Collins, PR 16:46.  Young dueled with Nicholas Waltman to the finish, while Solinger finished 3rd.

- North Hardin's Robert Rupp pulled off his first career varsity victory at the Central Kentucky Run for the Gold joining the merry-go-round of North Hardin #1's along with Tyler Breeds & Marcus Terrell.  Nice problem to have for the Class AAA #5 Trojans.

- New AAA teams Bullitt East and South Oldham are showing they are not imitated by the move up from AA.  Bullitt East's girls was in solid shape at the Run for the Gold placing five in the top 16.  South Oldham's girls packed up for 2nd in Bowling Green.

-- South Warren's Caroline Haas snuck into the Bowling Green pack on Saturday at the Purple Strider Invitational.  She finished 2nd with a 19:32.  The BG 2-5 were packed in behind her at 3rd - 6th.

- Bret Crawford of Grayson County won at the Purple Strider Invitational Saturday, which is his 2nd career victory there.  He was the 2011 JV Race winner at Purple Strider.  This year he pulled a nice victory off beating several notable names in Class AAA.
