State Champion Sound-Off: Boyle County Girls Class AA Record 4x8

The ladies of Boyle County broke the Class AA 4x800m Relay Record at the State Meet.  The foursome of Hannah Robertson, Hannah Harris, Nikki Coffey, and Logan Arnold comment below.  Thanks to Coach Brent Wagner for compiling it all.

What were your thoughts before the race?

Hannah Robertson, 2nd leg - It was my first year running so I was extremely nervous and really didn't want to let down my girls.  I had to tell myself that I had trained my body to do what it needed to do, and everybody else was fighting for second place.

How did we cut 19 seconds off our best time of the year?

Hannah Harris, 3rd leg - I think our biggest factor in cutting off 19 seconds was being pushed. We were competing against great relays, and we weren't going to let anyone in front of us.  We finally came together and all ran our best times.  Needless to say it was awesome!

This is the first time we've had a state record in BCTrack and Field history.  Thoughts?

Logan Arnold, anchor - Right before the race I was just trying to stay calm.  I had been on the 4x8 relay all of high school, so as a senior it was vital to keep my emotions in check before I ran the last 4x8 I would ever run.  It wasn't until the last two legs that I realized we had a shot at the state record.  It is an amazing accomplishment that I'll never forget. I'm so thankful for my coaches, teammates, and the Boyle County Track and Field program.  Without them our relay would have never accomplished what we did.

What motivated you to keep pushing when we were out in front? Teammates, record, announcer, gold medals etc?

Nikki Coffey, 1st leg - My teammates and my coach motivated me to stay in front.  I could hear them cheer for me, and I didn't want to let them down.  The announcer motivated me on the last back stretch.  I could hear him saying, "Boyle County with a strong lead."  After the race, I was hurting but I didn't want anyone to gain another yard, so I pushed harder on the last 100 meters.  It wasn't only Boyle fans cheering me on, it was everyone in the stands cheering so I knew something big was about to happen.
