State Champion Sound-Off

Did you win a state championship this past weekend?  There were a lot of you out there and KYtrackXC.com was able to interview a few but could not get anywhere near them all.  Now this is your chance as KYtrackXC.com is doing a "State Champion Sound-Off."  Take the questions below, answer them, and email them to kytrackxc@gmail.com.

Jordan Gibbs-Francis is a senior at Fort Campbell High School.  He was the Class A 400m State Champion and a member of the winning Class A 1600m Relay Team  He also helped lead his team to the Class A State Team title.

1) What event did you win?

JGB:  400m Dash 1A, 4x400m Dash 1A

2) What kind of strategy did you have going into your event?

JGB:  I knew that my kick would carry me through, but I didn’t want to rely on it so I wanted to lead from the front.

3) If this was your first state championship, what kind of emotions and thoughts did you have immediately after winning?  If this was another state championship for you joining others, how does this one compare to the prior one?

JGB: These were my 2nd and 3rd, I won the 400m last year but when I looked up at the clock this year I almost died with excitement.

4) Did you do anything different when it came to your training this season?

JGB: This summer I conditioned with the Tennessee Athletic Project AAU track team, and I set high goals from the beginning of the season.

5) Besides winning state, what was another highlight of your season?

JGB:  The highlight of my year is how close my team became, by the end of the year we were more like a big family, and the look on the boys’ faces when we found out that we had won the title.
