Gear Geek: Skechers GOrun Ultra Road

Skechers GOrun Ultra Road: M 9.7oz W 7.7oz 30/26mm The most radical looking shoe in the Skechers Performance Division 2015 lineup - the Ultra Road is designed for the long arduous run planned to pound a lot of pavement. Features of the shoe come together to bring out an extremely soft maximum cushioned shoe. From the top, Skechers Performance has released the FITKNIT technology. Incredibly breathable and roomy, the shoe is designed to reduce the sensation of hotspots on the top of the foot. By the 3rd wear of the shoe, the upper and laces had adapted to my foot to provide that personalized feel. Skechers was able to execute the successful first attempt on the new technology. Moving down to the midsole outsole, we see the similar Resalyte material that is produced in a majority of the Performance Division footwear. The only difference, is the quantity...and there is a lot under the foot. Moving into the maximum cushioning category there is a tough bar raised with expectations. The 4mm offset provided a transition from heel to toe that took some getting used to. Soft and not responsive, the shoe is designed for long and slow. A cool feature to note: the drainage holes worked. Testing the shoe on runs I found myself running through many of Austin’s Splash pads, with my share of splashing, only to leave the puddles without the shoe feeling that it took on weight.
