Class AAA Boys Preview

The boys of Daviess County and Apollo will battle it out once again for the Class AAA Region 1 team title.  Daviess County's Whitney O'Bryan and Muhlenberg County's Chase Geary are easy favorites to win.

  KYtrackXC.com Power 10 – September 30, 2011 These are the top best teams and individuals in the state of Kentucky regardless of school classification. These are not your typical rankings in the sense because without classes the KY State Meet would have more depth so a team’s 5th place runner in Class AA who normally scores well enough with a 18:00 is suddenly too far back to matter in a one class system.  The need for top runner is similar, that is obvious it is just on an exaggerated scale.

  The Class AAA Boys competition is always the most fierce individual and team battle in November and 2011 looks to be another year of the same.  Last year at the 2010 championship, fans saw the best head to head dual over the last 10 years with Daviess County’s Evan Ehrenheim and Trinity’s Jacob Wildenmann running side by side for three miles with Ehrenheim then pulling away to win.  Wildenmann’s second place finish helped lead Trinity to an upset victory which was their 18th state title in school history.  That win gave Trinity the record for the most state team titles in Kentucky history.   

Justin House, senior at Apollo High School in Owensboro has committed to run at the University of Kentucky next year.  House has been one of the best distance runners in his class since middle school.

As a new and different feature, we are looking to give you, our committed and informed subscribers, an in-depth analysis of the individual and team pictures in each class. We want to share some of our thinking with you, and get some feedback, so that you can get a better picture of the way the races are coming together at this point in the season. Hopefully, you will find the information interesting and even get a peek inside the working minds of Grooms and myself.

The 1st Annual Fast Cats Classic will be run on Saturday at Yellow Creek Park.  It is being co-hosted by Daviess County High School, Kentucky Wesleyan, and Brescia University, giving the fans some high school and college action.  Without the usual Lexington Catholic Invitational this meet as the potential to be the top Class AAA Boys Pre-State meet this year.  Four of the current top five squads in the KYtrackXC.com Class AAA Boys rankings will be on hand, including #1 St. Xavier, #3 Butler, #4 Apollo, and #5 Daviess County.  Also journeying down from Louisville will be Class AAA Girls #2 duPont Manual to battle with #3 Daviess County.

 Justin House is a senior at Apollo High School in Owensboro.  He has been one of the best runners in Kentucky since his freshmen year when he finished 4th at the Class AAA Kentucky State XC Championship.  His junior track season was unfortunately cut short by a foot injury.  He is back for his senior year ready to go back to the top.

Athletes of the week for sprints, distance, and field events. 

                    Evan Bridges, senior at Apollo High School in Owensboro has signed to compete for Brescia University next year. 

Full Preview of the Team and Individuals races for the Class AAA Boys State Meet which will start at 2:15 on Saturday morning at the Kentucky Horse Park.

The Annual Daviess County 6k Relay is taking placing this weekend and there are several quality teams and individuals involved. Apollo will bring their group in and go up against Trinity and Daviess County on the boys' side, while Eastern makes the trip to face off against Daviess County on the girls' side.

  Normally we don’t see big time performances on Tuesday/Thursday meets but last night was very different.  Two Kentucky athletes hit the MileSplit US First Team Elite Standard last night. 

Union College has announced the signings of the following athletes to compete for them next year.

With a very exciting cross-country season now well behind us, it is time for us to turn our attention fully to the upcoming indoor and outdoor track seasons. We have had several meets already, but the first meet of note in Kentucky will be this weekend at the University of Kentucky’s Nutter Fieldhouse.

In closing 2008 and looking forward to 2009, KYtrackXC.com presents the Top 10 Performances of 2008. These are based on the performances of Kentucky High School athletes only, during the traditional high school seasons and beyond.

The KTCCCA Hall of Fame Committee is proud to announce the 5 coaches that will be inducted into the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame on Saturday, January 10.

Thirty-six teams (over 1000 runners) have entered this year’s Gatorland Run at Phil Moore Park, hosted by Greenwood High School.  Two undefeated runners will square off in the Boys Varsity race:  Ryan Eaton (Greenwood) and James Maglasang (St. Mary).

List of KY HS Athletes registered to compete at Nike Outdoor Nationals this weekend.

Tyler Dickinson is a senior at Apollo High School in Owensboro.  He is currently ranked 3rd in the KYtrackXC.com/KTCCCA Class AAA Rankings.  He is leading the #1 Class AAA team, Apollo. 

The Tom McDowell Cross-Country Invitational, hosted by Campbellsville University, will be held on Saturday, August 1st in Greensburg, KY.  The first year meet will feature both a high school and college division.
