Meet Information
Its time again for the 4th Annual Junior Colonels Race Series!
This year we will have a 2 race series on Thursdays, 9/6 and 9/27 ~ with the 9/27 race being a District Championship Race for local teams.
These races are open to local elementary and middle school cross-country teams.
Also, local students in grades 1 -5 that are not attached to an elementary cross-country team are invited to race in the open race.
RACE LOCATION:
Races this year will be held at Henderson South Middle School.
RACE/ADMISSION FEES:
All races are FREE to enter, but this year there will be a $1 admission charge for adult spectators (kids are free). We hope this small entry fee will cover expenses for awards and other race expenses. Thank you for your understading!
This year we will also offer a concession stand!
RACES OFFERED:
The Open Race for unattached elementary runners, grades 1 -5 (those not on an elementary school team) will be a 1K (approximately .62 miles). No registration is required for the Open Race - just show up and run! This race will NOT be timed but top 10 boys and top 10 girls will be awarded ribbons. For this race boys and girls will run together.
The Elementary Team races (5th grade and under) will be a 2K (approx. 1.24 miles)and there will be a 3K race (approx. 1.86 miles)for Middle School Teams (8th grade and under).
On Thursday, 9/27, we will also offer a Kindergarten Fun Run. This race will be on the South Middle School football field, under the lights, and will be held while championship and all-county team results are being calculated.
RACE REGISTRATION
Elementary and middle school teams will need to register their teams using milesplit. On race day, elementary and middle school runners will need to check in with their coach to get their race numbers.
** No registration is required for the OPEN RACE. Individuals can just show up and run.
***Runners can only compete in ONE race, i.e., a participant that runs in the open race cannot also run in a team race - or a particapant that runs in a team race cannot run in the open race or in another team race.***
RACE SCHEDULE:
The open race will begin at 5:00 and the remaining races will be on a rolling start, meaning that we will begin each race as soon as the prior one is finished. Race times listed are approximate: Open 1K race 5:00 p.m., Middle School Girls 3K Race 5:15 p.m., Middle School Boys 3K race 5:40, Elementary Girls Team 2K Race 6:05, Elementary Boys Team 2K Race 6:25. Please note that races may begin EARLIER than these start times, since we will move through as quickly as possible on a rolling schedule.
On 9/27 ONLY, we will also offer a Kindergarten Fun Run, beginning at the conclusion of all of the other races, while results are being calculated, at approximately 6:45.
AWARDS:
For all races on both 9/6 and 9/27, the top 10 runners in each division will receive ribbons.
In the final race of the series, on 9/27, local elementary and middle school teams will be competing for the title of Junior Colonel Cup District Champions! Trophies will be awarded to the top 2 middle school teams and the top 3 elementary teams.
This year we will again name Henderson All-County teams! The top FIVE Henderson County middle school boys and girls and the top FIVE Henderson elementary boys and girls will be honored as First Team All-County. We will also honor the next FIVE elementary boys and girls as Second Team All-County. All County teams will be determined based on each persons best individual race time of the series. Plaques will be awarded to all First and Second All-County Team Recipients.
