State Meet Boys Throws Preview May 31, 2007

Former Mason County and current University of Kentucky thrower Andy Fryman breaks down the favorites for each of the classes in this boys throws preview.  Andy won an SEC title in the Shot Put at the 2006 SEC Outdoor Championships.  Fryman is the Kentucky State Overall Discus Record Holder and Class AA Shot Put Record Holder.

Interview with Mercer County's Chrys Jones.  Chrys broke the Overall State Record in the Triple Jump with a leap of 50-02 on Friday.  He broke the Class AA State Long Jump record on Saturday.  He will be competing for Centre College next year.

Class A will start off the KHSAA State Track Championship and so has the honor of starting off the class previews on KYtrackXC.com.  This season I will focus on the 3 events to watch in each class for each gender:  Race of the Day, Record With a Chance to Fall, and Battle for the Team Title.

As the middle class when it comes to school population, it is fitting Class AA has the second meet on Friday and Saturday.  The Tornados of Paducah Tilghman have dominated Class AA over the last few years, with the boys winning six state titles in a row and the girls seven in a row.  Can another school step up and stop the Tilghman athletes?  We will see.  Here are the Event of the Day, Record With a Chance to Fall, and Team Title Contenders for Class AA Girls.

Video Interview with Fulton County junior Sharika Smith. She won four state titles over the weekend in the 100m, 200m, Long Jump, and Triple Jump. She also broke her own Overall State Record in the Triple Jump with a leap of 39-03 and beat the Class A 200m Dash record with a time 24.82.

As always Class AAA will finish up Friday and Saturday so it naturally will finish up the meet previews.  In track the team with the most depth will usually come out on top especially in the larger classes.  The key events on the boys and girls sides will probably end up being the relays where that depth is displayed.  Here are the Event of the Day, Record With the Chance to Fall, and Team Title Contenders for Class AAA Girls.

Interview with duPont Manual\'s Jon Erickson Jun 1, 2007

Jon is a senior at duPont Manual and will be running for Vassar College next year.  He is one of the top contenders in the Class AAA 800m Run and will be running in the 3200 relay.

Jones Jumps his way into the Record Books 50-02 Jun 1, 2007

Mercer County senior Chrys Jones triple jumps 50-02 to break the Overall State Record.  Paducah Tilghman boys and Russell girls are in the lead after Day One of the Class AA State Track Meet.

Interview with Troy Cooper after the Class A State Track Meet on Saturday at Paul Dunbar High School. He won two state titles in the Shot Put and Discus. He had personal best throws of 58-05.50 in the Shot Put and 166-03 in the Discus. Cooper will be competing for the University of Cincinnati next year.

Seaman Breaks Class A PV record Jun 1, 2007

Bishop Brossart has a commanding 48-22 lead over Frankfort after Day One's action at the Boys Class A State Meet.  Bardstown senior Michael Seaman broke the Class A Pole Vault record of 14-06 with a vault of 14-07.  St. Henry and Bishop Brossart are at the top of the leader board in girls action.

Chinwe Okoro is a senior at Russell High School. She won Class AA State Titles in the Shot Put and Discus. She had the best throws in the state regardless of class. She will compete for the University of Louisville next year.
