Neal Smith's best 5K time this year is 15:09.7. His best 3M time is 14:50.5. And no, I do not think he could beat Ryan Eaton, everybody else maybe but not Ryan. Come down to Footlocker and watch them run. It will be settled in less than two weeks. Ryan is going to California like his older brother did.

Running in the Texas Class 5A, district 6 meet, Neal ran a 4:13 mile and finished 3rd!!!! Craig Lutz is also in his district. Neal ran a 9:14 in the 3200 last night.

The official results show 4:15, which is still quite impressive when you note that Neal's prior PR was 4:25 (at least according to milesplit). How's this for a tough regional/district meet?

    1 Lutz, Craig Lewisville M 4:09.39 10
    2 Adams, Connor Lewisville F 4:11.64 8
    3 Smith, Neal Southlake Ca 4:15.26 6
    4 Gilley, Trevor Southlake Ca 4:18.37 4
    5 Canavin, Sean Lewisville M 4:21.66 2
    6 Rains, Brett Lewisville M 4:24.36 1
7 Chavez, Jordan Southlake Ca 4:25.34
    8 Zeller, Robert Lewisville F 4:27.09

Good Job Neal!! And evidently, it was raining during the race. His time would be #5 all time in Kentucky. The 9:14 3200 would be #2 all time behind only Bobby Curtis.

For conversation sake, do you think Neal would have run a time like this had he stayed in Kentucky?

Obviously very impressive times for Neal either way.

Where is he going to college?

The Owensboro Senior High record for a mile is 4:13.7 set in 1967. The record for two miles is 9:14.9 set in 1974.

Neal Smith still has a chance to beat those records. I hope he does. Untill you report to college in August, you are still a high school student.

Using the handy-dandy milesplit conversion calculator, his 9:09.32 3200 in the Texas state finals converts to 9:12.51 in the 2 mile, so he arguably has beaten the OHS 2 mile record.

    Excellant!!!!

Second fastest in Kentucky History if Neal would have stayed instate. Let us wait untill June 17th in North Carolina. Maybe then we will see a head to head matchup.

    Can't wait.
