On the Class A individual rankings, Ryan Laber is listed as being from Walton-Verona, he is a student at Villa Madonna. How is James Maglasang ranked higher than Jacob McIntyre given their week 1 performances?

I am interested in the comments of AA being off. Can you please be more specific? I am not asking anyone to trash anyone or a team, but would love to hear another perspective. Not sure what the thoughts are. THANKS

    tiny jim... you are correct
    pat yates.. want proof?
Josh lee, aaron poore, and james brown have not put down times this whole year.. i respect aaron poore as a runner he dont have to proove anything. you put joey ladrum in the top 20.... hmmm... 18:36... impressive. Rizik Lado, Josh Blinkhorn... 17:40s? ..?
what about people like matt collins, tanner alexander? no respect for russell. those are top 20 times but they also have earned the respect they should get. i know its early.. but come on! alexander put down a 17:26 thats better than 18:36.. great disappointment.

Didn't say that and I was more expecting team comments. I don't think there is any way you can value individual rankings for another several weeks. Wasn't saying the rankings for individuals were right and I wanted proof otherwise. You misunderstood.

yea i no iceman i mean i ran at the fairview invitational and that course is hard, its not a pr course by any means, i was 16 seconds behind tanner and 29 behind matt and i was impressed with myself but i agree with all ur saying especially the guys thatb havent ran a 5k yet no disrespect to them, there good runners but how can u be ranked in varsity(5k) if you havent ran a 5k race yet. and alot of the fast times are from the tiger run which i hear is a fast course so it semms to m that the majority of the times were from the raider run or the tiger run

Boys, boys, boys calm down. This year, I personally am not doing the Class AA rankings but does not mean I am not checking them over before they are released. This is the fourth year I have done the XC rankings and they are hard, especially this early. Most schools have run one meet and that is about it.

As far as those runners you listed guess what they have run. They ran at Madisonville but results have yet to be released. But with the help of Alexander Graham Bell's invention I was able to find out where some of the runners finished. That being said isn't one of the runners you all mentioned in Eastern Kentucky, not to mention he ran a 3200 in Somerset on 8-30. If you want to believe these were just randomly put together please go ahead and do so.

Back to the point, this is XC straight time rankings don't always work out. If you would like to voice a concern, please email me at jonathan@kytrackxc.com. I will gladly look over the comments and respond.

Anyways, shouldn't so called disrepect make you work that much harder.

Keeping it in perspective, FIRST, I truly appreciate the rankings. They are relative and based on a very formed opinion that takes a great amount of time to form, so whether or not we agree, we should at least appreciate. SECOND, consider your bias. I was a journalism magor in college WAY back in the day when you worked hard NOT to form a bias. So, I assume the rankings are done without bias and that when we CC nuts read them, we as consumers ARE biased with the result being we almost cannot agree. LAST, it can be both a blessing and a curse to see or not to see a team or runner ranked. IF they are not and deserve to be, then it ought to serve as a little bit of inspiration. IF they are and should not be, then they should work harder to keep it, or risk complacency regarding falling behind due to a decrease in work effort. If I had a choice, I'd rather be an unranked, or less ranked, team or runner that deserves it so I am more motivated to proof my worth, than someone ranked who doesn't deserve it and becomes complacent.

Keep in mind folks, this is the first week the rankings have come out. Again, I really appreciate them, find them relevant from an informed point of view, but realize there is an inherent flaw in them in that the CC courses in the state vary and because of that, there really isn't a standard of measure. At the end of the season, like any other sport with rankings at any level, the team that shows the best on the day it counts wins the distinction of being the best in the state for their class, as well of as the individual runners.

Maglasang or McIntyre is a tough call. I have been to Madisonville NH High School (pretty rough course where Maglasang beat Willie Polio's time from last year) and River Road Country Club which is pretty fast. Great start for both either way.

Discussions about rankings are always entertaining. We have this artificial (my opinion) distinction developed that gives us three classes in a sport that requires just as many athletes as basketball - which has no classes. I know a number of runners from each class and I know that they work hard, but arguing over who should be #6 or #8 in 1A, 2A and even 3A is a bit like arguing over which one of the little people in Little People Big World is the tallest. It's not a useless argument, but it misses the point - and that's what I'm saying here. Sure, argue over whether the rankings seem to reflect what you think is reality, that's what makes rankings fun, but don't lose track of where you stand relative to the best teams in the State - regardless of class - and whether you have a plan in place designed to move you toward that level.
