September 15, 2012 @ US Bank/Mason County Schools Indoor Athletic Complex in Maysville, KY
Hosted by Mason County
The Varsity Girls race brings in Class A #1 Bishop Brossart and its strong pack. Last week at Grant County, Brossart's front four had only 22 seconds between them. They were led by Olivia Nienaber with a 21:31. Senior Sarah Klump was only five seconds behind Nienaber. They will get pushed by a rebuilding Scott team that has its own pack that was sitting right behind Brossart at Grant County. #1 Megan Buckner was in front of all the Brossart runners last week.
The individual race should be a dual between Rheagan Sizemore (Mason County), winner last week at the Fairview Invitational and Sarah Duncan (Lloyd Memorial) are the favorites. Sizemore, an 8th grader saw her first Varsity action of the year last week in her win. She is currently undefeated this season. Duncan is coming off back to back 5th place performances at Ryle and Grant County. She is going after her first win of the year. Watch out for Boyd County and Darian Steele in this race as well.
Just like the girls race, Bishop Brossart leads the boys. Their #1 Michael Caldwell is going after the individual win coming off a 4th place finish at Grant County. This task will be not easy as there should be group right there with him led by Grayson Brookshire (George Rogers Clark.) Brookshire pulled off his first win last week at the Beast in the East with a 17:07. Chris Loos (Bishop Brossart), Jeremy Jackson (Scott), and Keegan Hanrahan (Scott) were all within 15 seconds of Caldwell at Ryle, but were over 30 seconds back last week at Grant County.
The team battle is between Brossart and Scott with Newport Central Catholic as a potential team to crash the party.
