September 15, 2012 @ Double Stink Hog Farm in Georgetown, KY
Hosted by Scott County
The Double S Stampede is going into its third year and has a collection of mainly local teams gathering to compete.
The Varsity Girls race is headlined by Woodford County and their #1 Mia Cornette. Cornette, the Lafayette transfer is currently ranked in the top 20 in Class AAA and should be able to cruise to the win just like her team. She has fourth last week with a 20:07 at the Rumble through the Jungle, competing against both the Class A and AA defending state champions in Maddox Patterson and Gabby Karas. The battle for second will be between first year varsity runner Ashley Lawhorn and Boyle County Nikki Coffey. Coffey is coming off a third place showing at her own home invitational on Thursday with a season best 20:31. Lawhorn has run in northern Kentucky the last two weeks after opening at Tiger Run. She was seventh overall at Grant County last week. The team battle is between Woodford County and Franklin County.
The Varsity Boys race has Paul Dunbar as the team to watch. Dunbar is always a team that has a ton of depth and that holds true this year as well. The team is led by Malik Mahmud and Kendall Muhammad up front. They ran last week at the Victor Ashe Park Fall Classic in Knoxsville, Tennessee with the front two each placing in the top 20 both under 17:45 in a loaded Tennessee meet. They should work together in this race to get away from new XC runner Kennan Jones of Western Hills. The sophomore Jones, has a best of 17:50 this year from the Shelby County Invitational. Dunbar should take the team title.
