The 2009 Kentucky Outdoor Track season opened up Saturday with three meets in action.  KYtrackXC.com brings you a recap of the weekend high school action.

Lenny Lyles Invitational

Boys Results | Girls Results

The Lenny Lyles Invitational brought together most of the top teams in the Louisville area as we saw two-time defending Class AAA State Champs Male win with 122 points over St. Xavier’s 82 points.  One of the overall favorites to win Class AAA this year, Butler won the girls competition with 95 points beating second place Central by 13 points.  Eleven meet records fell, highlights below.

Girls Highlights

Chelsea Brown and Tiffany Rogers helped lead the way for Butler Saturday.  Brown, a University of Louisville signee, won the 200m Dash in 25.90, 300m Hurdles in 46.16 and 400m Dash in 58.65.  This is the fastest Brown has ever run to start her outdoor season in the 300m Hurdles and 400m Dash.  Rogers won the 100m Dash in 12.52.  Brown and Rogers combined with Moriah Corey and Shanika Cox in the 4x200m Relay for the win.

Emma Brink (Sacred Heart) fresh off her 5th place finish in the One Mile Run at Nike Indoor Nationals won the 800m Run in 2:22.38 and for the first time ever competing in te 400m Dash.  She finished second with a 1:00.88.  Not bad for a distance runner.

Male’s 4x400m Relay team ran a most impressive early season time of 4:07.47.  Looks like a group that has the potential to run under 4:00 this season.

Elizabeth Anderson (duPont Manual) coming off a victory in the 1500m at the Mason-Dixon Games won the 1600m run in 5:21.89.

duPont Manual and Eastern went down to the wire in the 3200m Relay with Manual winning by .28.  Manual crossed in 10:13.34 and Eastern in 10:13.62.

Nicole Cobble (Central) won the Shot Put with a toss of 35-05 and the Discus in 104-08.

Boys Highlights

Male won as expected but not in the usual way in which they score big in the sprints.  They were led to victory with wins by Michael Patterson in the Long Jump 20-08.50 and Kyle Jenkins in the Shot Put 45-10.  They did win the 4x100m and 4x200m Relays.

Stephon Robinson (Central) won the 100m Dash in 11.18 over a very solid field.  He also finished 3rd in the 200m Dash in 22.57.  Point scoring machine Marcellus Hobbs (North Hardin) countered Robinson with a victory in the 200m Dash in 22.57 and a 2nd place finish in the 100m in 11.30.

The Jackson Carnes (St. Xavier)/Andrew Stewart (North Hardin) duel in the 3200m Run turned out as an easy victory for Carnes running a 9:44.  Stewart came in 2nd in 10:01.  Ian McCaslin (St. Xavier) sneaked up for third only .03 behind Stewart.

Brandon Bagley (John Hardin) won the 110m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles in 15.01 and 39.90.

duPont Manual broke the meet record in the 3200m Relay with a 8:16.08.

The Discus looks to be one of the best events in Kentucky this year and two of the best went head to head Saturday.  Andrew Miller (Ballard) overtook Kyle Jenkins (Male) with a toss of 156-08.  Jenkins threw a 154-01.
