ST. MARY INVITATIONAL

September 15, 2012 @ Noble Park in Paducah, KY

Hosted by St. Mary

KYtrackXC.com's brand new staffer, Meagan Pickett will be on-site at Noble Park tomorrow to cover the meet.  She was an All-State Runner at Ballard Memorial High School who went on to compete at Campbellsville University.  After graduating from Campbellsville she has returned to western Kentucky.

Noble Park has shade and nice straight aways, but it has a flood wall in the back that the runners have to go up twice, so fast times are definitely possible.

The Varsity boys race is led by AAA #4 Chase Geary who is undefeated this season.  He cruised to the win last week at the Purple Strider Invitational and should do the same this week.  He ran a 16:07 to win at St. Mary's last year and should push to go sub 16 trying to break the course record of 15:59 held by Sean Hurd, formerly of Christian County and currently running for Western Kentucky University.  He will have a big lead over second place, so sub 16 will be done by his own will power and strength.

Behind Geary you will start to see the team race unroll.  The front Heath duo of Zach Hudspeth and Josh Grogan should push for 2nd and 3rd with Logan Hurd of Christian County being right there along with Iszack Whitsell of Webster County.  Heath will strike first, but then St. Mary will bring the pack led by John Higgins and Paul West.  A fast improving Graves County squad is one to watch as well.

The predicted battle from last week of Aleja Grant (Paducah Tilghman) vs. the duo of Lindsey Mathis and Alliah Fueller from Muhlenberg County did not happen at Purple Strider.  But it will this week.  All three runners like to get out fast and this course allows for that to happen as the first mile is quick.  Last year Grant won with a 19:16 to Fueller's 19:41, so this group is definitely familiar with each other.  Grant has two victories this season, Heath Pirate Invitational and the Mad Marshal Dash.

Muhlenberg County looks like the early favorite in this one after winning last week at the Purple Strider Invitational.  They should be pressed by Lone Oak, Graves County, and Class A #4 Murray.
