September 08, 2012 @ Kereiakes Park in Bowling Green, KY
Hosted by Bowling Green
KYtrackXC.com will be Live On-Site for the Purple Strider Invitational. This meet is typically held in what feels like the blazing heat, but not this year (high is suppose to be 77.)
In the Varsity Girls race the individual race is top heavy with a field full of ranked runners. Paducah Tilghman sophomore Aleja Grant, #2 is the favorite and she start fast. Muhlenberg County's Alliah Fueller and Lindsey Mathis. Watch out for a dark horse like Caroline Haas of South Warren or the Smith sisters from Edmonson.
The Varsity Boys race is led by Muhlenberg County's Chase Geary. The #4 ranked runner in Class AAA won this same race last year with a 16:40 beating the crowd by 31 seconds. He rolled to a win at the KY-IN Border Clash opening with a 15:52. If Class AA #2 Sye Head tries to push Geary the times should come down. Head has been on a roll himself opening with a 16:35 and 16:44.
The battle in the next group of runners with is a repeat of last week at the Raider Twilight. Region foes Marcus Terrell (North Hardin), Keith Prive (Greenwood), and Kyle Johnson (Bowling Green) will match-up. The Class AA area region will go at it just like last week as well. The trio from Edmonson County, Jonah Starling (South Warren), and Aaron Osborne (Warren East) are going at it. Osborne got the best of the group last week.
A name to watch out for that is on no one's radar is Jonathan Smith (Berea.) He opened with a 17:51 to win the Woodford County All-Comers this past week by nearly 2 minutes. I am hearing that is just a starting point as he is a senior who is brand new to XC with a whole lot of untapped talent.
The team race is led by Class AAA #9 Bowling Green who pulled an upset of #6 Eastern last week at the Twilight Classic. Class AA #6 Logan County and #8 Edmonson County, along with North Hardin will be in the hunt as well.
