AAU/USATF Nationals: Newsome, Robinson, White, Fields Lead the Way for KY

 

The AAU Junior Olympics were held in Humble, Texas this year and the USATF National Junior Olympics were in Baltimore, Maryland.  Below are all the Kentucky athletes who finished in the top 25 in their event.

At the AAU Olympics the top finishers were Jorden Fields from Male in the 110m High Hurdles with a 5th Place finish with a 15.30, Dequan Robinson from Henry Clay in the 200m Dash with a 6th Place finish in 22.39, and Jordan White of Owensboro Catholic  in 5th Place in the Discus with a 150-08.  All earned All-American honors in their events.

At the USATF Junior Olympics, Thor Newsome led the way with two All-American finishes in the Sub-Bantam age group.  He was 2nd in the 1500m Run with a 5:28 and 6th in the 800m Run with a 2:45.06.  The girls 3200m Relay team from Westside Track Club was 7th overall in their event with a 10:44.09.

    Missed a couple of kids from USATF

    Shot Putter Devon Rogers placed 4th in the Sub bantam Boys age group in Baltimore....and in the Young Women age group Amarrah Reed placed 11th in the girls Steeplechase

    Landon Young would had been on this list if not for the Aug-Dec donut hole. Instead of him throwing the same weights that he threw in midschool within that past several months, he was force to throw the high school weights instead. He still had a very impressive national meet with very good results. Had he got to throw in the youth group, a top five in the shot and good posible win in the discus at the USATF nationals.

    I have mention before that it should not be right to force a true 8th grade graduate
    to be force to throw the highschool weights. They do address the 17 year olds that have their birthday during this same period.
