NYAC's Camarena-Williams ties American Record in shot put

PARIS, FRANCE – Competing at the Paris Diamond League meet Friday, American shot put thrower Jillian Camarena-Williams tied the existing American record with her third place throw of 20.18m/66-2.5.

Camarena-Williams tied Ramona Pagel’s record, which she set in 1988. This latest mark for Camarena-Williams comes on the heels of an indoor season where she also established the American indoor record of 19.87m/65-2.25, which was also previously owned by Pagel, who set the mark in 1987.

Camarena-Williams finished behind Valerie Adams of New Zealand (20.78m/68-2.25) and Nadezhda Ostapchuk of Belarus (20.49m/67-2.75) in the event.

Camarena-Williams will also represent the United States at the 2011 IAAF World Outdoor Track and Field Championships August 27-September 4 in Daegu, South Korea.
