Parayil sets stadium record in capturing 10K crown

ROLLA, Mo.--The two-day Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships kicked off Saturday (May 7) at Missouri S&T.  The Bellarmine men's team captured two of five finals on Day 1, and the women's day was highlighed by Julia Zalewski's runner-up finish in the javelin, and Nora Bowe's fastest qualifying time in the 100 hurdles.

Highlights from Day 1:
- Men's team in second place after first day
- Jordan Parayil wins 10k in Stadium Record time (31:33.41)
- Elliot Mattingly wins javelin and scores in second of his four throwing events - second day offers opportunity in his two better events (Hammer & Discus)
- Freshman Ben Kolb in second place after five events/first day of ten event decathlon - should contend to win, and may challange conference record in decathlon (6319 points) 
- Freshman Damar Williams qualifies for finals in 100 and 200, running a personal best and the meet's second best qualifying mark in 100 meters (only 1/100th behind leader)
- William Saucer runs seasonal best to join Williams in 200 final
- Seth Sigler, with third best qualifying time, leads two hurdlers to finals of HHurdles (James Greenlee is second qualifier)

Women's Highlights
- Team in sixth place after Day 1
- Nora Bowe runs school best (15.04), with top qualifying mark in 100 Hurdles
- Erin Dwenger clears school best mark in women's PV (3.41m/11-2 1/4)
- Julia Zalewski earns a runner-up finish in Jav, and scores in Hammer as well
- women earn two of eight finalists in 100 meters (Elaine Kuntz & Katie Neiser), while a personal best effort from Meghan Jones earns her a spot in 200 final (25.24)
