6th Annual KYtrackXC.com Outdoor Awards

 KYtrackXC.com is pleased to present the 6th annual KYtrackXC.com Outdoor Awards with a surprising mix of past winners and new names. The 2010 Kentucky Outdoor Season finished with a bang with the Kentucky State Track History Books being rewritten nearly every week. Let’s see this boom in competition continue on for years to come.  As with the past, there are three categories: Sprinter of the Year, Distance Runner of the Year, and Field Event Athlete of the Year. These are regardless of class.

Sprinter of the Year

Anna Carrigan - Campbell County

Anna Carrigan, junior at Campbell County won three Class AAA titles (400m, 800m Relay, 1600m Relay) for the second year in a row at the 2010 Kentucky State Track Meet.  These victories along with her third place finish in the 200m Dash helped lead Campbell County to their first ever Kentucky State Team Championship.  Carrigan finished the year with career best in both the 100m and 200m Dash.  This is Carrigan’s first ever KYtrackXC.com Outdoor Award.

Distance Runner of the Year

Emma Brink - Sacred Heart Academy

Emma Brink, junior at Sacred Heart Academy won the 1600 Meter and 800 Meter Run at the 2010 Class AAA Kentucky State Track Meet.  In defending her titles in both events, Brink broke the Overall State Record.  She won the 1600 Meter Run in 4:53.66 and the 800 Meter in 2:13.26.  She broke her own record in the 800 Meter Run.  She set a career mark in the One Mile Run at the Mobile Challenge of Champions with a time of 4:52.51.  She was the 2009 KYtrackXC.com Outdoor Distance Runner of the Year, 2009 KYtrackXC.com Indoor Distance Runner of the Year, and 2009 KYtrackXC.com Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Field Event Athlete of the Year

Samantha Smith - Rockcastle County

Samantha  Smith, senior at Rockcastle County won the Long Jump and Triple Jump at the 2010 Class AA Kentucky State Track Meet.  She was the top jumper in the state, regardless of the school classification.  She was defending state champion in the Long Jump, she bettered her 2009 mark by over one foot.  Smith has been one of the top jumpers in the state including being named the 2009 KYtrackXC.com Indoor Field Event Athlete of the Year.  But she went above and beyond her senior year, setting career marks in both jumping events.

Sprinter of the Year

Brandon Bagley - John Hardin

Brandon Bagley, a University of Kentucky signer won both the 110 Meter Hurdles and 300 Meter Hurdles at the Class AAA Kentucky State Track Meet on June 5th.  He broke the Overall State Record in the 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 37.83.  He went onto to New Balance Nationals finishing 8th overall in the 110 Meter Hurdles running an #1 All-time Kentucky time of 13.98.  He also lowered his best time in the 300 Meter Hurdles to 37.72 at the Kentucky AAU Meet this post-season.

Distance Runner of the Year

Ryan Eaton - Greenwood

Ryan Eaton, senior at Greenwood High School showed he was once again the top distance runner in the state of Kentucky, winning every event he competed in within Kentucky.  He won the 1st Annual Kentucky Dream Mile, the Two Mile Run at the Volunteer Track Classic, defended his title at the Class AAA Kentucky State Track Meet in the 1600 Meter, and won his first career state title in the 3200 Meter Run at state.  This postseason he ran a career personal best in the One Mile Run at New Balance Nationals finishing 13th overall with a 4:13.36.  Eaton was the 2008 KYtrackXC.com Distance Runner of the Year, 2008 and 2009 KYtrackXC.com Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Field Event Athlete of the Year

Kyle Jenkins - Male

Kyle Jenkins, senior at Male dominated the throws in Kentucky this year, especially the Discus.  He won both the Shot Put and Discus at the 2010 Kentucky Class AAA State Track Meet with throws of 58-06 and 193-01.  His toss in the Discus broke the Class AAA State Record and places him #2 All-Time in Kentucky.  His two victories helped lead Male High School to their fourth straight Kentucky State Team Title.  He has signed to throw in the Big East next year for the University of Louisville.
