Class AAA Saturday Night Preview

The Class AAA Kentucky State Track Meet will be on the main stage finishing off the state meet in typical fashion Saturday night.  With one class already finished and a preview up for the Class A meet tomorrow let’s finish it off with Class AAA.

Top Boys Storylines

Male Boys Sprints:  The sprint crews at Male High School have already run #1 All-time Kentucky times in the 400m (41.29) and 800m Relays (1:26.67.)  Can they make it official and take down both official state records of 42.06 and 1:28.15.

Boys Throws Showdown: Kyle Jenkins (Male) has been #1 all season in the Shot Put hitting 55-00 consistently, but then last week at the Class AAA Region 1 Championship Apollo’S Harris Bivin busted a bomb of 58-05.25 to win.  These two along with Drew Nelson of St. Xavier are going to bring it tomorrow.

3200m Relay Redemption?: Anyone who was there last year saw Butler ran a smoking time way under the 8:00 barrier, only to be disqualified.  One year later with three of the legs back they are ready to back after the state record.  Only a middle schooler last year when he ran, freshman Tretez Kinniard has developed into a big time 800 runner running to go along with seniors Michael Caldwell and Darius Berry.  Campbell County, St. Xavier, and Greenwood all look to make it interesting hoping to crack the 8:00 barrier themselves.

Boys 800m: Defending champion Robbie Scharold (Campbell County) is back with some tough competition in Kinniard and North Hardin junior Andrew Stewart.  Scharold has run 1:53.67 while Stewart and Kinniard have each gone under 1:56 this year.

Boys Hurdles: Can Brandon Bagley take down the Kentucky State Meet record of 37.89, his best time this year is 37.90.  If Kieran Story or Ben Kolb can step up and make it a race that record could be going down.

Top Girls Storylines

Girls Distance:  Both Emma Brink (Sacred Heart) and Anna Bostrom (Woodford County) are scheduled to run the triple.  Brink pulled it off last year, but Bostrom has proved this year Brink will have to run faster to do it again.   The 1600m and 800m records could go down by either and the question is who has the gas to hold on in the 3200m.  Elizabeth Anderson (duPont Manual) and Megan Klein (Paul Dunbar) will both try to play spoiler.

Campbell County Relays:  The girls will look to win the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m Relays tomorrow evening.  Meade County could win the 1600m and 3200m and Tates Creek will be in the mix in the 800m.

Girls 200m Dash:  Anna Carrigan is the heavy favorite in the 400m Dash, but she will a tough competitor with Tamyah Pipkin.  Expect a showdown with there two.

Team Titles

Girls race is wide open but Campbell County looks to be the favorite.  Male should win their 4000th title in a row or it seems at least.
