Dotterweich qualifies for NCAA DII Finals in steeplechase with performance at UofL

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Bellarmine University sophomore Nate Dotterweich slashed more than 20 seconds off his season's best time to qualify for the NCAA Division II national finals in the 3000 meter steeplechase tonight at the University of Louisville Twilight Meet.

Dotterweich ran a 9:01.48 to shatter the Bellarmine school record by some 14 seconds and record the eighth best time recorded in the NCAA Div. II so far this year.  The time easily cleared the national automatic qualifying time of 9:06.  

According to Bellarmine Head Track and Field Coach Jim Vargo, it is the first time that a Bellarmine track and field athlete has produced an automatic qualifying time since the 1980s.

Prior to tonight's performance, Dotterweich's fastest time in the event had been 9:23 at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship.
