Entry FAQs

Entry Deadline-

Open Running Eventsvs. Open Field

Our open events are designed for varsity or high level JVathletes who did not meet our invitational entry standards. These races are very competitive and yieldexcellent performances.

All openfield events (Pole Vault, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, and Discus)take place at UofL's Card Park on Friday and require meeting qualificationmarks. On the entry page there is not aseparate place for open field events.Just enter the open athletes along with the invitational athletes and wewill split the field after the entry window closes.

Friday's Open running events (100m & Mile)are at UofL's Cardinal Park Track and teams are limited to 3 entries per eventin those races. The Open Mile is listedin the entry page as 1600m but will be a Mile.

Saturday's Open Running Events (400m, 800m,3200m) are contested around the corner at DuPont Manual.

Non-qualifiers/bubbleathletes

Typically our entry standards are rigid. However, we have experienced lots of badweather in this part of the country.Forathletes near the bubble, coaches may enter athletes who have just missed themark. We will look at the field sizesand "fill the last race" with the top bubble athletes. This will not be a large number of athletes, but may help a few athletes in each event who have just missed theirevent.Plan to check the performance list on Tuesday to see if those athletes qualified.

Indoor Times /Athletes Not Seeding Correctly

The folks at milesplit have been very helpful in severalregistration upgrades. The entry systemwill now pull athletes lifetime best marks from either indoor or outdoor. They will also convert 1600/Mile times aswell as 3200m/2 Mile times.

However, I know some teams still have results that are notin the milesplit database at all.If youhave an athlete whose lifetime best mark is not showing for their entry pleaseemail both michael.horan@jefferson.kyschools.us

and
kymilesplit@gmail.com and we willmake sure that the athletes are seeded accurately.

Friday Night MedleyRelays- Seeding

We love our DMR and both SMR events on Friday night but theseeding can be tricky since many teams do not race it before EasternRelays.Remember, we plan to limit theDMR to 1 section per gender so seed times don't matter too much, but please bethoughtful in the quality of team's you are entering.

For the SMR, after entries close and the performance list comesout, if you think your SMR is seeded in the wrong section please email withevidence that your team should be upgraded.

As meet information indicates we may limit the size of allmedley relays based on quality if the field size dictates.

Traditional Relays

Every school with a team entered in the meet may race in allof the Saturday Relays. There is norequired qualifying time. Please includeall relay legs and alternates in the entries.

General

Please make every effort to get entries in sooner ratherthan later. The deadline is Midnight onMonday getting things in earlier will allow any questions to on the entryprocess to be answered in a timely fashion.

We do not expect to add entries after the deadline as ourfield will be quite large.

Please look to meet information links on http://easternrelays.milesplit.combefore emailing a question. We will havewell over 100 teams participating (118 as of now) in the meet and we always tryto be quick to answer questions but in addition to preparing for the meet thisweek I'll also be proctoring state testing.

Sanctioning:We typically proactively complete the sanctioning process for KY, IN, OH, IL, MO, WV, and TN. Any schools from additional states wishing to participate should communicate early so you can also be included. Last year Indiana's sanction required that they be scored in a separate division so IN teams were ineligible for team awards.

Awards:Awards for First, Second, and Third Overall Team. Awards for the top 8 finishers in each individual event. Awards for the top 3 relays in each relay event. Scoring: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 for all events

Entry deadline:Online entries should be received by Monday April 16th, 2018. Any entries received after the deadline will be charged an additional $25 fee and may not be accepted at all. All athletes (including relay legs) are assigned a unique competitor number. There will be a $5 fee for athletes that lose their bib numbers or that are not included in the entries and need to be assigned a competitor number/bib on meet day.

Track Events:All track events are timed finals.

Field Events:Shot put, discus, long jump, and triple jump will be contested with 3 jumps/throws, with the top 9 athletes advancing to finals. During the preliminary round, all marks will be measured in the first round. During the subsequent rounds only marks that exceed the entry standard will be measured. Pole Vault, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, and Discus will contest an open section (no awards, non-scoring) on Friday night with the Invitational sections on Saturday. All field events, both open and invitational require a qualifying mark. For the High Jump and Pole Vault the starting height will be the entry standard. Depending on field size we may utilize 5-Alive or multiple pits broken up by entry height.

2017 Meet Recap

The 2017 Eastern Relays Featured some remarkable, national class, performances.

  • The story of the meet was distance powerhouse Rebecca Story (TN). She smashed the meet record, running 10:15.85 in the 3200m, 15th fastest nationally, and doubled back to run 4:56.79 for the mile. All-time KY great Michaela Reinhart finished 2nd in both running 10:25.26/5:01.24. They led 6 ladies under 11:00 and 16 under 11:20.
  • The boys 3200m began tactically but finished fast with Dustin Horter(OH) laying down an 8:56.62 and fast finishing Yared Nuguse (KY) clocking 9:06.44. 10 runners broke 9:20 and 17 were under 9:30. Horter's time was 27thnationally and 7thamong underclassmen.
  • Taylor Ewert (OH) set the pace in the ladies 2k Steeple, running 7:14.56, a top 50 national time. Her brother Ben Ewert (OH) followed up with 6:13.51 victory. He'd finish 2017 as the third fastest prep in the country.
  • The sprint and hurdle times were hindered by the rainy weather, but still saw some great multi-state matchups. Isaiah McCall (KY) would go on to run the 15th and 28th fastest times in the country for 110/300m Hurdles later in the season after dispatching a strong field here.
  • The pole vaulters found cover at Kentucky Elite Athletics and saw Tony Cappola (IN) win in 14'6 and Eli Darrough (MO) clear 14'. The girls vault saw Jordan Banker (MO) clear 12'6 and Emily Paden (OH) at 12'.
  • One of the nation's best Antonio Villegas (IN) long jumped 23'1 despite less than ideal conditions.

In any conditions, the Eastern Relays hosted athletes, teams, and coaches from throughout the Southeast and Midwest in fierce competition in 2017 and 2018 should bring some of the nation's best back to Louisville for a late April battle!
