KYtrackXC.com Athletes of the Week

In an effort to honor the top track and field performers from Kentucky, KYtrackXC.com will have a weekly set of Athletes of the Week.  There will be Middle School, High School, and College awardees.  Former Kentucky High School Track and Field athletes currently running in college are eligible for the College award, even if he or she attends a school out-of-state. 

 

High School

 

Girls 

Emma Brink – Sacred Heart Academy

Brink, a sophomore at Sacred Heart Academy won the One Mile Run at the UK High School Invitational with a KY All-time Indoor #1 4:55.75.  This performance ranks her 7th nationally for the 2009 Indoor Season. Apparently not fully satisfied with her day she went on to run a personal best time of 2:20.64 in the 800m Run finishing 7th.  Both times rank #1 in Kentucky.

 

Boys

Jackson Carnes – St. Xavier

Carnes, a junior at St. Xavier High School finished 5th in the Two Mile Run at the UK High School Invitational with a career best time of 9:36.57.  This currently ranks him #1 in Kentucky in the Two Mile Run.  He also ran as part of the St. Xavier 3200m Relay team Saturday.

Girls

Hannah Hollifield – St. Edward’s

 

Hollifield, an eighth grader competing for Derby City Track Club won the High Jump 4-04 and Shot Put 29-09.50 Saturday at the KTCCCA Indoor Meet  in Maysville Saturday.  Both performances are currently #1 for the 2009 Middle School Indoor Season.

 

Boys

Connor SheryakChristian Academy

 

Sheyak, an eighth grader at Christian Academy in Louisville won the 800m and 1600m Runs Saturday at the KTCCCA Indoor Meet.  His 800m time of 2:29.21 and his 1600m time of 5:10.59 are both currently ranked 1st in the 2009 Middle School Indoor Rankings.

Women

Amaka OmenyinmaUniversity of Louisville

 

This 2006 Waggener graduate finished second at the Big East Conference Indoor Championship in the Long Jump with a personal best leap of 20-05.25.  She also finished sixth in the Triple Jump with a jump of 39-05.75.

 

Men

 

DeMorrio LeggettUnion College

 

This 2008 Bardstown graduate finished sixth at the Virginia Tech Challenge Saturday in Blacksburg.  His jump of 47-10.50 was his best this indoor season.  He also finished 19th in the Long Jump with a leap of 20-11.25.
