Highlights from the day so far

Girls 60m Hurdles

Boys 60m Hurdles

Brandon Bagley (John Hardin) busted out of the blocks to win the 60m Hurdles race with an 8.10 over Ben Kolb (St. Xavier) 8.30.

Girls One Mile Run

Until the half way point this looked like it was going to be a race to the end, but Sacred Heart Academy sophomore Emma Brink pulled away after the 800m mark leaving Woodford County’s Anna Bostrom and Daviess County’s Madison Hale behind.  Brink won with an impressive 5:09.26 breaking the Wildcat Classic Meet Record.  Bostrom finished 2nd with a 5:17.61 and Hale was third in 5:18.42

Boys One Mile Run

Defending Class AAA State Champion Ryan Eaton (Greenwood) ran a 4:22.02 to win over Thomas Canary (Lexington Catholic) 4:28.41.  A group of three followed in right after all going under 4:35, Andrew Stewart (North Hardin) 4:30.98, Jackson Carnes (St. Xavier) 4:31.81, and Justin House (Apollo) 4:34.26.  Eaton’s time broke the Wildcat Classic Meet Record.

Girls 60m Dash

For the third consecutive year, Tiffany Rogers (Butler) has won the Wildcat Classic 60m Dash.  What makes it even more impressive is that she has broken the meet record every year.  This time she bettered her winning time from last year by .09 winning in 7.72.  Jazzmin Jeter (Ballard) finished 2nd tying Roger’s previous meet record of 7.83.

Boys 60m Dash

Normally the top three runners in a race like the Wildcat Classic come out of the same heat, but not today.  As expected Justin Green (Male) won the race with a time of 7.04.  He easily won the 1st heat by close to two-tenths of a second.  But the winner of the second heat took a shot at Green’s winning time.  Stephon Robinson (Central) ran a 7.05 winning his heat and finishing 2nd overall.  In fact 3rd place overall was Marcellus Hobbs (North Hardin) who won the third heat in 7.19.

Girls 400m Dash

Chelsea Brown (Butler) cruised to victory running a 59.76 defeating runner-up Hannah Ellis (South Oldham) by close to three seconds in the first heat.  Trina Thomas (Paul Dunbar) ended up taking second overall winning the second heat with a time of 1:02.25.

Boys 400m Dash

If you did not know the name Ben Mason (Lafayette) before the Wildcat Classic you should by now.  The 5th place finisher in the Class AAA 100 Meter Dash last season, he busted a 10.71 this past summer at the Bluegrass State Games.  Mason showed Saturday his name belongs with the best in Kentucky as he dominated the 400 Meter Dash winning by over two seconds with a 49.98.  Greg Shepherd (North Hardin) was the runner-up at 52.00.

Girls 800m Dash

Emma Brink (Sacred Heart) already the winner of the One Mile Run doubled back with a victory running a 2:21.97.  Natalie Norman (Grant County) and Madison Hale (Daviess County) tailed Brink to the end finishing second and third.  Norman ran a 2:24.12 and Hale a 2:26.42.

Boys 800m Dash

Joe Mallek (Oldham County) burst onto the scene as a sophomore running a 1:55.87.  Last year he won the Wildcat Classic 800m Run with a 1:56.99 and then struggled through the outdoor track season.  After a strong senior cross country season, Mallek is back for action.  He won Saturday running a 1:56.56 breaking his own meet record.  Justin House (Apollo) and Geoff Spencer (St. Xavier) fought it out for second with House running a 1:57.80 and Spencer a 1:57.99.

Girls 200m Dash

You know the saying “records are meant to be broken”; this is a definite when Tiffany Rogers (Butler) steps to the line.  Already a three time meet record holder in the 60m Dash, she figured why not take another one wining the 200 Meter Dash in a record time of 25.71.  Once again, Jazzmin Jeter (Ballard) was right behind Rogers finishing second in 26.06.

Boys 200m Dash

Ben Mason (Lafayette) once again stole the show winning the 200 Meter Dash in a record time 22.03.  Video of the race  His time was good enough to break the previous meet record of 22.41.  Marcellus Hobbs (North Hardin) was second in 22.25 also breaking the meet record.

Girls Two Mile Run

If you paid attention to the Assumption Rockets girls cross country team this past fall you saw the team was always led by the 1-2 combo of juniors Allison Riedling and Sara Davis.  At the Wildcat Classic, this duo went 1-2 with Riedling winning in 11:50.44 and Davis second at 11:51.44.  Elizabeth Anderson (duPont Manual) was third with a 11:59.00.

Boys Two Mile Run

Looking at the entry list for this race it was obvious this was going to be a showdown between Stacey Eden (Shelby County) and David Hamm (duPont Manual.)  They did not let us down battling it out for two miles with Eden winning in the end with 9:50.09 and Hamm second in 9:52.09.
