In an effort to honor the top track and field performers from Kentucky, KYtrackXC.com will have a weekly set of Athletes of the Week. There will be Middle School, High School, and College awardees. FormerKentuckyHigh School Track and Field athletes currently running in college are eligible for the College award, even if he or she attends a school out-of-state.
High School
Boys
Robbie Scharold – CampbellCounty
Scharold, a junior, won two events at the Capital University HS Meet in Columbus, Ohio. He won the 1600 Meter Run with a personal best time of 4:28.19. He went on to win the 3200 Meter Run in 10:10.50 another best time.
Girls
Samantha Smith – RockcastleCounty
Smith, a junior, won three events at the KTCCCA Indoor Meet in Maysville, the 55m Dash (7.81), Long Jump (15-07), and Triple Jump (33-09.)
Middle School
Boys
Nick Robinson – MasonCounty
Robinson, a seventh grader running for Mason County, won the 800 Meter and 1600 Meter Runs at the KTCCCA Indoor Meet on January 17th, running times of 2:46.23 and 5:55.85.
Girls
Kira Deatherage – RockcastleCounty
Deatherage, a sixth grader running for RockcastleCounty, won the 55 Meter Dash in a time of 8.37 and the 400 Meter Dash in 1:13.83.
College
Women
Katherine Peterson – University of Kentucky
This Sacred Heart graduate ran a best time of 9:46.46 in the 3000 Meter Run Saturday at the Kentucky Invitational to place fifth.
Men
Kwasi Obeng – University of Kentucky
This Bardstown graduate ran a 47.92 to finish sixth in the 400 Meter Dash. He was also on the UK 1600m Relay team that finished third running a NCAA Provisional time of 3:09.61.
