Kelsey Chmiel Breaks 43-Year-Old National Sophomore Class 3K Record

Kelsey Chmiel broke the national sophomore class record for 3K by running 9:26.28 for the win at the New York State Championships. The prior record of 9:29.0 was set by Debbie Quatier in 1974.

The Saratoga Springs star's time is 5:05.71 mile pace, and converts to 10:07.9 for 3200m and 10:11.41 for two miles. It is the second-fastest 3K time in the nation this year behind only Kate Murphy, who ran 9:14.12 at January's Ocean Breeze Freedom Games.

Chmiel also holds the 3K national freshman class record of 9:41.73.
