Morehead State Signs Four for 2017-2018


MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State men's and women's cross country/track and field programs have added a total of four newcomers set to join the Eagles in 2017-18.


Cody Chism (Butler, Ky.) and Josh Grogan (Paducah, Ky.) have signed National Letters of Intent for the men's program, while the women have inked Maggie Kiper(Louisville, Ky.) and Madison Pelfrey (Bellbrook, Ohio) to NLIs.


We are excited to add these four athletes to our Morehead State cross country and track family," said head coach Stephen Picucci. "They have all excelled in the classroom as well as on the track and cross country courses."


Chism is a product of Bishop Brossart High School where he is a three-time qualifier for the state cross country championship. He finished sixth in the state in 2015 and was eighth in 2016. He also has qualified for the state track championship three times. Chism's best finish was a sixth-place showing in the 2016 800-meter state race.


Grogan, who preps at McCracken County High School, has run in the state championship cross country meet four times, coming in 26th in 2016. On the track, he has been to the state meet three times, running in the 4x800m Relay, 1,600-meter, and 3,200-meter races.


Kiper hails from Male High School, where she has qualified for the Bluegrass state cross country meet four straight years. She was 21st in 2016. On the track, Kiper qualified for and ran the 800-meter run at the 2016 state championship meet.


Pelfrey attends Bellbrook High School where she finished 21st at the 2016 Ohio State cross country meet. She took fifth place at the 2016 district track meet in the 1,600-meter run.


"As we continue to build our programs for the future, athletes like Cody, Josh, Madison and Maggie are going to plan a big part in our success starting next fall," Picucci said. "I look forward to watching their performances in their final high school track seasons."
