KYtrackXC.com is pleased to present the 4th annual KYtrackXC.com Outdoor Awards with a surprising mix of past winners and new names. The 2008 Kentucky Outdoor Season was tremendous with a very high quality ending at the Kentucky State Track Meet. The overall individual talent and team depth in Kentucky has grown since the inception of the KYtrackXC.com Outdoor Awards. As with the past, there are three categories: Sprinter of the Year, Distance Runner of the Year, and Field Event Athlete of the Year. These are regardless of class.

Girls

Sprinter of the Year: Chelsea Brown (Butler)

At this point, it looks like this award should just be renamed the Chelsea Brown Award because she has taken home this title for the third straight year. This senior-to-be won four races (100m, 200m, 300h, & 400m) at the 2008 Kentucky State Track Meet. Thus far in her career she has won 10 Kentucky State Track titles. This season she achieved a personal best of 43.82 in the 300m Hurdles.

Distance Runner of the Year: Kaitlin Snapp (Danville)

This runner from Danville finished up her 8th grade year with two Class A Kentucky State Track titles winning the 1600m & 3200m runs. She achieved personal bests in both events. She has won the two straight Kentucky State Class A Cross Country titles. Next up for Ms. Snapp, high school.

Field Event Athlete of the Year: Amashi Kendall (Owensboro)

KYtrackXC.com posted a weekly list of athletes who accomplished MileSplit US National Performances and weekly the name Amashi Kendall made the list. Not just in the Shot Put, but also the Discus. Kendall has won two straight State titles in both throws events. This senior-to-be set a personal best in the Shot Put going over 40 feet for the first time.

Boys

Sprinter of the Year: Justin Green (Male)

This senior-to-be put together a very memorable Kentucky State Track Meet winning three individual races (100m, 200m, 400m) and anchored the winning 1600m Relay team. These four victories helped Male win their 2nd straight Class AAA Kentucky State Team Title. He also was the first runner in six years under 49.00 seconds in the 400m Dash. Additionally, he was named the 2008 KYtrackXC.com Indoor Sprinter of the Year.

Distance Runner of the Year: Ryan Eaton (Greenwood)

This sophomore stepped out of the shadow of his brother, Michael, establishing himself as the top distance runner in Kentucky in 2008. He set personal bests in the 1600m and 3200m Runs including winning the 1600m Run at the Kentucky State Track Meet. He was undefeated in the 1600m Run this Outdoor season.

Field Event Athlete of the Year: Brad Wright (Apollo)

This Western Kentucky University signee won the Class AAA Kentucky State title in the Discus. He was 2nd in the Boys Shot Put. Wright recorded personal best this season in both the Shot Put and Discus.
