#14: Patriot Girls Bring Home the Wheel!

Despite frigid conditions, and we really mean cold, Rachel McArthur and her Patriot teammates blazed the Franklin Field track in Philadelphia to bring home Virignia's only wagon wheel trophy of the year. They won their race, the distance medley, in 11:51.85 ahead of Blacksburg (third), Oakton (ninth), and George C. Marshall (fifteenth).

Opening up for Patriot was indoor 1000m champ Candace Jones who split 3:42.82 for the 1200m leg. That leg held them in 5th place through the first leg. Erin Andrewlevich was up next running her 400m leg in 57.59. That split was the second fastest 400m split. Running the 800 leg was Sierra Bieberr who ran 2:21.29 to keep Patriot within striking distance.

Anchoring the team and taking them from around 6th place to the lead on the final lap was Rachel McArthur. Rachel used her long strides to slowly pickoff competitors and continuously gain ground on the leading Blacksburg. When she made her move no one had an answer for her speed as she crossed the line in first thanks to her 4:50.16 split! That split was six seconds faster then any other 1600m leg.

With that title Patriot joins Blacksburg and West Springfield as past champions in the DMR over the past decade.
