KTCCCA to host National Championship Race

The Cross Country Coaches Youth National Championship will be held on December 1, 2007.  This first year event is being hosted by the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association at Masterson Station Park in Lexington, Kentucky.

The governing body of the Cross Country Coaches Youth National Championship introduced this new championship to allow for more options for the youth runners of today.  The KTCCCA stepped up and offered to host this first Cross Country Coaches Youth National Championship due, in part, to the Association’s experience in hosting large meets, including the 1996 USATF Junior Olympics Cross Country Meet and the 1999 AAU Junior Olympics Cross Country Meet.  Additionally, the KTCCCA hosts an annual “Meet of Champions” which acts as the Kentucky State Middle School and Elementary Championship.  This year the “Meet of Champions” had over 3,000 runners in twelve races.

There are many ways to qualify for the Cross Country Coaches Youth National Championship.  The student-athletes will not be required to qualify from any other post-season race.  Simply finishing as one of the top runners in your state cross country meet will make one eligible for the Cross Country Coaches Youth National Championship.  To check on the qualifying standards, go to http://www.youthcrosscountry.org/qualifying.html.

Registration is November 15 – November 27, 2007.  The entry fee is $20.00.  The Race of Americas, for ages 8 and under, is $5.00.  Any youth club coach or individual interested in further information may contact Frank Miklavcic at fmiklavcic@aol.com.  More information is also available at http://www.youthcrosscountry.org/.
