Weather & #MileStates Update: 3A/4A & 5A/6A Rescheduled (as of 12:00pm 3-4)

With impending weather once again on our doorsteps we must keep a vigilante eye on the forecasts for the entire state and the status of all of our state meets. Here is the information you need to know!

If you have anymore questions and want them answered then tweet us @milestatdotcom

Update at 12:00pm Wednesday March 4th:

What is the current status of my state meet?

Right now, as of 11:00pm Tuesday the 3rd, the status is that all the state meets are on as planned. No decision will be made until tomorrow afternoon.

What will it take for the meets to happen?

Per the VHSL handbook and after speaking with the VHSL, the minimum that it will take for the state meets to happen is first the ability for 50% + 1 team of the classification to attend. If that is the case then we will need this number of teams for each classification:

Group 3A: 21

Group 4A: 22

Group 5A: 22

Group 6A: 25

Are there plans in place and what are they?

Yes and no. The VHSL has had their eyes on this storm and really want to get the meets in as planned. Unfortunately, weather may not cooperate with that plan. The VHSL and each classification is working to create contingency plans, there are ideas and multiple courses of action to attempt to get these meets in but they are all contingent on the weather. If the weather is absolutely horrible it changes a lot of things and that means the state meet may be moved back a week and if the weather is not horrible the meet could go on with fewer teams.

To answer your next question, the VHSL has nationals in mind but will make their decision focused on having a state championship as the first priority while also trying to accommodate teams.

When will we know the status of our state meet?

Tomorrow, Wednesday, afternoon we should have a much clearer picture of the storm and if plans are going to change. The VHSL has said if there are going to be changes they want to make them prior to the day of the meet. That being said, expect to hear updates from us on twitter @Milestatdotcom tomorrow the second we hear anything. We are working with the VHSL and sitting next to them at the 2A state meet so we will have it directly from the source tomorrow.

Who ultimately makes what decision?

The ultimate decision of the status of the meet and when it will happen falls on the shoulders of the VHSL but they will make their decision based on the counties participating. If it looks like it is impossible to get the meet in and schools have not made their decision then do not be surprised if the VHSL is proactive and reschedules the meet. They will be looking to book a facility as soon as possible if that is the case. Obviously this decision will be much different then last time around as the forecasted weather is very different across the state.
