Class AAA Girls State Meet Preview

As always Class AAA will finish up Friday and Saturday so it naturally will finish up the meet previews.  In track the team with the most depth will usually come out on top especially in the larger classes.  The key events on the boys and girls sides will probably end up being the relays where that depth is displayed.  Here are the Event of the Day, Record With the Chance to Fall, and Team Title Contenders for Class AAA Girls.

Event of the Day

The Girls 200m Dash has the best of the best sprinters in AAA in one race.    This could be the most competitive race of the day and play a role in the team title race. One year after winning four state titles, Butler sophomore Chelsea Brown will try to defend her title in the 200m Dash.  Brown’s teammate Tiffany Rogers, Candace Johnson (Hopkinsville), and the Ballard duo of Jazzmin Jeter and Lutisha Bowen will toe the line to see who is the best at covering half the track.

Record With a Chance to Fall

The one-year-old State Pole Vault record of 11-07 set by Andrea Sabbatine (Scott County/University of Louisville) could be broken this weekend.  Lexie Barr and Mary Barron, both from Daviess County, along with Samantha Stenzel (Paul Dunbar) have all vaulted 11-00 or better this season with Barr leading at 11-04.  If one of them hits her stride she could be going for the record.

Team Title Contenders

Butler, Ballard, duPont Manual, and Owensboro are the top contenders for the team title.  Butler is led by the strong duo of Brown and Rogers in the sprints and relays.  Ballard is balanced in the sprints and jumps led by Jeter and Bowen.  duPont Manual will try to rack up points in the distance events by having a contender in the 3200 Relay, 800, 1600, and 3200.  Owensboro will contend with Butler in the sprints.    Bottom of Form
