Class A Boys State Meet Preview

The Kentucky State Track Meet Class A Boys competition will be held Friday and Saturday mornings.  The usual mystery is involved in trying to figure out who is going to take the big trophy at the end of the competition.  As with the Girls Class A preview, let’s look at the Event of the Day, Record With a Chance to Fall, and Battle for the Team Title.

Event of the Day

There will be many great performances this weekend in the Class A meet, but the event with the chance to be the best is the triple jump.  With the closing of Harrodsburg, Chrys Jones and his Class A State Meet Record moved to AA this track season leaving the door open for someone else to take the title.  Four jumpers have gone over 44-00 this season, including a pair of Frankfort teammates in Mico Wells and Cameron Jouett.  Zach Schmidt (Bishop Brossart) and Mikie Benton (Russellville) have also hit the mark sometime this season.  Jouett has the best on the season, but the other three are within five inches of his best.  It is possible there could be a new leader with every jump by these four.

Record with a Chance to Fall

Go ahead and start the music as the boys Pole Vault record will be contested Friday morning first thing.  Bardstown senior Michael Seaman has a chance to take down the Class A State Record of 14-06.  He has bettered that mark six times this season including a best of 15-06.

Fort Campbell senior Derrick Stallworth, already the winner of four state titles, is once again the favorite in the 100m and 200m Dashes.  He has surpassed the Class A State Record of 22.20 in the 200m Dash with his Region 1 winning time of 21.94.

Battle for the Team Title

Bishop Brossart looks like the early favorite with St. Henry, Danville, and Frankfort chasing.  Brossart is led by Troy Cooper (Shot Put and Discus) and Matt Hansman and Zach Schmidt (Hurdles and Jumps.)  St. Henry will try to load up points in the distance events led by Gordy Dooley.  Danville and Frankfort will battle it out in the relays and jumps.
