CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Edgewood, Ky., native Brett Pierce was named the men's cross country runner of the week by both the Mid-South Conference and National Christian College Athletic Association on Tuesday.
The Campbellsville University senior senior broke the tape 30 seconds in front of his nearest competitor for the season-opening win at the Asbury (Ky.) Invitational. Pierce completed the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes and 21 seconds -- 25 seconds ahead of his winning pace in 2013.
Pierce led the Tigers -- who had the top four harriers in the 43-man race -- to the team's second straight Asbury Invitational win.
The next MSC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week award is scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
